They are not doing well right now.

My dad is having problems with an infected tooth, which didn't respond to antibiotics, and the infection has spread into his jaw, neck, ear and lymph node. His blood pressure is also sky high, and medication is not lowering it.

My mom has been diagnosed with a swelling of her optical nerve and the blood vessels in her eye. I am taking her to a specialist next week. The cause may or may not be a tumor behind her eye.

They are both in their 70's.

It is a rather bad time for our family right now. I appreciate your positive thoughts and prayers.

Thanks.

I will definitely keep your family in my prayers. And that includes you! What a good child you are to be concerned and so helpful. I hope I'll be able to do the same thing for my parents when they need me.

Twisterdog,

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know how difficult it can be to have to reverse the role of caretaker. I did it with my Dad. I wish you all the best. BTW, do you have any family members that can help you out??? If you do, please ask for help! I had family but they were all too wrapped up in their own lives to care. That's why I moved to MI.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry your Mom and Dad are doing well right now. The important thing is that they are getting the appropriate medical attention and best of all, they have a wonderful, caring daughter who is watching over them. You, your Mom and Dad will be in my thoughts and prayers. Be strong (tough, I know) and think positive. And come here to talk whenever you need to. Please let us know how they, and you, are doing. {{{BIG hug}}} Love, Sandra

I am so sorry to hear about your parents both having health problems. I will remember them in my prayers. and you too, because I know how it is to have both parents sick.
It is hard to see them get older, and change from the way you remember them from childhood. I hope things get better for them.

Update on my dad ....

Things are going from bad to worse. :(

Now in addition to the infection and the high blood pressure, he has now been diagnosed with sleep apnea, and has to have oxygen at night. He HATES the idea, and probably will be stubborn and refuse to do it.

Also, we got his test results back. The doctor said his bloodwork shows signs of "prostate problems" - he didn't come right out and say cancer, but it was heavily implied. We have to get him in to see a specialist, ASAP. My friend's father died from prostate cancer a few months ago. :(

Also, my brother-in-law is was admitted to ICU yesterday, with severe pneumonia, that is not responding to treatment.

Bad things come in threes, my grandma used to say. I guess it's true.

:( :( :(

We too will keep your family members in our prayers. This has to be such a scary time for you. There is a silver lining in that the other problems have come to the surface through this emergency. Now they can be dealt with.

I'm sorry your dad isn't getting better, maybe you could convince him of the merits of oxygen if you told him that you'd like to keep him around awhile longer and that he needs to think of you guys too (you know....guilt...the gift that keeps on giving!...turn the tables and use it on your parents instead of them using it on you!) I'm lucky, my parents both are very good about taking whatever directions the doctors give them. I hope that he starts feeling better soon. Please continue to keep us updated.

You, your parents and your brother-in-law will be kept in my prayers.

It will be important that your Dad gets plenty of rest. Perhaps if he realizes how much the oxygen will help him sleep - he may change his mind.

Bless you for being such a caring daughter.

Update on my mom and dad .....

My dad was put on sulpha (sp?) medication for a month, and then is to have his prostate rechecked. If it is not better, they will "discuss other options." :(

I just got back from Utah, taking my mom to an eye specialist. Good news - it is NOT a tumor!! They are not sure what caused the problem. She is to return in a month for a recheck. If the bleeding/swelling in her eye is worse, or no better, they will either recommend a steroid injection into her eye (OUCH!) or surgery.

So ... basically .... a month of "wait and see" for both of them. Could be better news ... but could also be a WHOLE lot worse!

THANKS for all your thoughts and prayers!!

:)
