I thought maybe this would get more traffic in General vs Dog General.

Some of you know that I've been helping out with a local rescue. I've been fostering starting in January this year. This little girl is my 9th foster for the year.

Her story is that she was rescued from an Amish puppy mill. An Amishman took approximately 40 dogs to a local vet to be put to sleep b/c he was done breeding them and had new breeding stock brought in. Pearl is one of those dogs. This little Pearly Girl has come so far in the few days I've had her. 10 days ago she was locked in a cage with a male, breeding endlessly for an Amish puppy mill. Now she's sleeping in a bed and today she actually went to the door and banged on it and I took we outside and she pottied outside. My mom Saw her on Tuesday and then again
Friday and said she doesn't even look like the same dog. She's smiling and happy. She's still skittish but she's soaking up the love like a sponge. She has horrendous teeth and breath and is in desperate need of a dental. Would anyone be willing to help out with her dental costs??? You can see how brown her teeth are in the Pearl2 picture.

For those interested in helping with her dental the PayPal is [email protected]. Or if you would prefer mailing address for All Species Adoption Program just shoot me a message.

Thanks so much!

Staci, whenever I reread this thread, I think of all the current shows on TV, of the "reality" ilk, that show the Amish in a positive light, or like a quaint, fun curiosity. Poor Pearl would beg to differ, I am completely sure of that!

It's so cute! She's running in circles! I'll check with Staci and see if I can share it here, or I'll copy it into the Pet Talkers Facebook group so you can see it, Freckles.

Karen, I'm with you. I'd also like to tell all the people who are okay with dogs from puppy mills being sold as pets in Cook County that this is exactly why it's not right.

I wonder how the dental fund is coming along. Is it growing? How much does dental care cost for a dog? Will it cost more because her teeth are not healthy? What happens if the funds can't be raised?

Not trying to start an argument, but not all Amish have puppy mills, and not all puppy mills are Amish.

There are just as many (if not more) non-amish BYBs/puppy mills around here, and there are plenty of Amish in the area. Just because there are abusers in the community doesn't make the whole community guilty.

Saying all Amish are bad are like saying all Muslims are terrorists. I'm fairly certain no one is doing that.

Cassie's mom I think we have about $80 in the fund - with a goal specifically for Pearl of about $300. We have 2 other dogs from the pull that need dentals also. When I called our vet and he gives us a discount for the rescue it was roughly $250 minimum.
