Hi everyone, thought I would share my news that I will be having surgery on July 8th to have my second cochlear implant. I have had my first cochlear implant since I was 16. I'm 29 now. I decided it was time to make another change in my life for the better and that is to do the second. Most especially do it BEFORE my wedding in about 5 months. :)

I've decided to make a blog to follow my post surgery to recovery to the day when I have it turned on and my achievements & struggles with the second cochlear implant. If you're interested into taking a peek into my life through a blog, here it is: http://rmcbuckeye84.blogspot.com - I'd appreciate it for good thoughts, prayers, vibes, etc. because I am feeling super nervous about it and it's been 15 years to make a big decision and it was time to do it before I change my mind.

Thanks everyone! Seems like Ryder knows how I'm feeling and wants to stay close to me. He's a love bug.

All the best, Rachel! Is it a long surgery? How quickly does a person adapt to the new hearing?

I bet this is exciting but a bit scary too. HUGS!:love:

WOW. What a high-tech gadget the Nucleus 6 is! And the auto-filter thing is awesome!

Had you thought about getting the other one upgraded?

Glad everyone was so nice to you. I am sure they feel really happy to do something that makes such a huge difference for someone!

You've got a good big doggy nurse there. You're in good hands! ;):D:love::love:

My audiologist actually suggested I update my left ear's CI - but it's entirely up to me. I would have to go under again so they can take out the old and put in the new. MAYBE in a year or two... It's possible. :)

I'm just so thankful to have had a great surgeon and his staff. SO considerate and kind. That's who I'd rather go with than someone who is cold and "all business."

I am just so happy that I am doing well!

Thanks everyone! I will be making a new post today. Made a new one yesterday. Today is going to be a long one, I think. :)
My newest challenge: Try not to end up on my wrong side when sleeping. I need to stay on my left side, not turn up on my right side. Otherwise I wake up in a little bit of pain on my ear. :\

Use a body pillow? Or bunch of pillows? Or a large, immovable doggie? ;):D

I may have to use a neck pillow! Hmm I can try a body pillow. I do have a lot of pillows to use so I'll put it between Mike and I. And on my other side, too. I'll try that tonight. :)

Yeah, because the dog will just shift with you when you move, so won't prevent rolling over! Good luck! And it will be interesting for you once you turn it on, as you will have stereo hearing - a new ability to tell where sounds are coming from? I miss that ability, though I took it for granted the first 30 years of my life!
