On Facebook someone suggested instead of Haiku, in March we do Limericks!

For those who aren't familiar it is generally fun:
They are five lines long.
Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with one another.
Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other.
They have a distinctive rhythm:
They are often funny

The rhythm is “anapestic,” an easy way to say it is:
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM

****

My initial contribution:

My brain does not limericks do
As nicely as it does haiku
I'll try hard to play
But won't promise each day
So the rest will be up to all you!

March is finally here
But spring seems nowhere near.
The snow and the cold
Are getting quite old,
I'd like to kick winter in the rear.

It's funny that I wanted snow
But southward the storm it did go
I know some are weary
Of grey winter dreary
But even still, I love it so!

It's march and it's started to snow
The plows run at night, to and fro
They slide and they slide
Scrape the snow just outside
And keep me awake, this I know.

Jack Frost came to visit last night
The snow glistens in the morn light
I'll have to take care
and long underwear
This cold really does have a bite.

Good ones, Richard!

Disappointed no snow came my way
Though I know most prefer that any day
The sunshine's still quite cold
Winter still has its hold
No matter what the early birds say

(We had some robins arrive, a whole flock of them, about 3 weeks too early - there are no bugs or worms yet, they're having to rely on dry birdseed like the rest!)

The numbers for the weather do not tally
For the transplant who did hail from Cali.
Would it be bold
To say it's too cold
And he misses the temps from the Valley?

I do not say this with sass
but one thing I cannot let pass
I own a brass monkey
Who is feeling funky
and outdoors he does freeze his (behind)?

Ice and snow and the sleet
For the first few hours is quite neat
After a few days
Cabin bound and in a daze
I feel the need for some heat.

My fingers go cold at thought
I forgot the gloves that I bought
They reside on the table
Because I am not able
To remember, my mind must be shot......

Tiny snowflakes are now falling
With glee, my mittens are calling
But I have work to do
And it is inside, too
But I know many find it quite galling

A winter vortex quite cold
To venture out doors is quite bold
weatherperson on set
Will never get wet
do you believe what we're told?

Slipping and sliding, my feet
better off wearing some cleats?
Some places I pass
Almost fall on my (rear)
to wallow on the asphalt street?

Tracks on the new fallen snow
Squirrels, bird and dogs I do know!
It's easy to see
Where the dog took a (vacated his bladder)
The start and end of the flow?

Lim'ricks are not my brain's forte
They rarely come nicely my way
But still I do try
Don't ask me why
Just stubborn I guess, as Ma'd say

The grass is starting to show
From beneath the slow-melting snow
Though it looks pretty sad
A long freeze it has had
And it's not even starting to grow

I think that I am just thrilled
The bulbs I thought I had killed?
I have reason to shout
They are starting to sprout
My winter prayers were fullfilled!

An extra hour of sun
Now add some time to my fun-
But later I will be deranged
The time again will be changed
And the savings time will be done?

Aren't bulbs a delight? I don't have any here, but will have to look at the church to see if anything is sprouting in a week or so (we still have snowpack melting in many places ...

It's fifty degrees outside today,
I'd like to go out and play.
But don't you know
Tomorrow it might snow
I wish winter would stay away.

More stuff to astound me. It's like a whole new world - all over again!

There once was a kitty in Munich
who liked to wear a Roman tunic.
He showed thus that history
to him was no mystery
that clever old kitty in Munich.

There once was a cat in Cologne
Who said "I will leave you alone."
Took a boat down the Rhine
And discovered a mine
full of gold in the depth of the stone.

The birds outside on the snow
Know the seed is down, it's time to go
Gobble it up quick
Then hop onto a stick
And chatter at the squirrel below
