Apparently this is a "thing" even though April is national Poetry month ...

So let's try to do a haiku a day here on Pet Talk, everyone play, see how many we can post each day!

I will start with 2, as it is now February 2nd ...

February dawns
With cold white skies, clouds hold firm
Unyielding to sun

Silhouetted trees
Branches form black lace against
A stark winter sky

So far it's ice and snow too.

The arctic vortex
slowly spins down on the states
my bones really hurt.

Scraping my windshield
A squirt of water may help
Hose is frozen, too.

Two reactions to today's unexpected snowfall:


The toddler next door
Discovers snow with bare hands
Giggles with delight

One mile away, a
Store clerk pushes heavy slush
Mutters, "wrong again!"

Giddy anticipation
Coloring their speech

Children start wishing
For a snow day tomorrow
Parents, meanwhile, cringe

Snow in the morning
The world gone white and still, pale
Sky descends in flakes

Time stops in a storm
Directionless whiteness makes
Sundials mute, useless

warm heater outlets
dog and cat take turns lounging,
absorbing the heat.

Dog makes trip outdoors
Feet cold fur wet with water.
Look out, yellow snow!:eek:

Sno flakes, all different
but one thing puzzles me.
White is standard hue?

Cold cat disappears
Hours pass, where has he gone?
On my bed, dreaming!

Microfleece blanket
protection against the cold
Shared with sleeping cat?

Snow that snaps crackles and pops.

Dreams of summer sun

Red bike, snow encased?
Dreams of dry asphalt, warm days
dry wind massages.

Rider counts the days
Helmet, gloves and steel toes
Wait by the front door.

The first sign of spring
No rain, ice, sleet or clouds.
Smiling- Bugs in teeth?

High pitched motor sounds
Reminds all sleeping bikers
Wake up, time to ride!

Yodee's winter nap
Curled by the golden fire's glow
Eyes closed, face toasting

Old cat and young fire
Meet hearthside, instantly form

Fresh banana bread
Cools on the counter, tempting
But too hot to taste

One cannot sneak one
Slice off a newly baked loaf
And go unnoticed

Winter Olympics on tube.
It's the ambience?

Watching in warm clime-
No snow to be found on ground?
Come on, It's winter!

My So Cal fashion
T shirts, cargo pants, sandals
Have no place in ice.

Boxed away, hiding
All my summer clothes and shoes
In time, warmer again?

Stomping ice off shoes
Ice chips stick and melt on floor.
Blame it on snow man?

Sent a few slices

Even the wild birds
Are quiet within the hedge

Are fun to share with neighbors
While we break the ice

Wondering if that's where the "breaking the ice" conversation term comes from, as on a morning after a storm people you never usually counter are all outside at the same time, literally breaking up ice and shoveling snow!

Layers, boots, thick underwear
damn, it's cold outside.

I dress myself up

Forty degrees out
Wore my lined raincoat today
Instead of heavy down.

(Back story: 40F out today and sunny! Hooray! I left my big heavy down jacket at home and wore my raincoat with the lining. Just for a break for one day. My winter coat has gotten a lot of use this year.)
