For some weird reason my cat was sleeping and woke up and started breathing really hard any ideas why?

Could be on of many, many reasons! Anything from a kitty nightmare to more serious issues. How old is he? Breed? And how long ago was this, and did his breathing go back to normal yet?

That sounds like Scrappy Two who is nine and she sometimes sounds as though she was running a long race.
