I don't know if we have many metalheads here on PT but this is worth a mention in my opinion. Jeff Hanneman, guitarist & co-founding member of the iconic and hugely influential Thrash Metal band SLAYER has died at 49 of liver failure. No real info yet as to whether the liver failure is directly linked to the spider bite he received in 2011 which cause flesh eating disease and which he has been battling since then. It is a sad day for METAL and all SLAYER fans. The world has lost an icon of the metal world.

*raises hand* I am and I also believe it`s worth a mention.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Jeff`s passing. Like you said, kittycats, he was an icon and he will be well missed. I actually hadn`t heard about the spider bite, though. That`s crazy. It sounds like he dealt with a lot of pain or at least health problems due to that, and I feel terrible that he went through all that. Slayer is and will always be one of my favorite bands and Jeff will always be a metal legend.

Thanks for posting this. I`ll be lighting a candle in his memory today.

Rest in Peace Jeff Hanneman, you will be missed.

Whenever a rock/music icon passes, I always think of this song.....

Rock and Heaven
-Righteous Brothers

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band

Jimmy gave us rainbows
And Janis took a piece of our hearts
And Otis brought us all to the dock of a bay
Sing a song to light my fire
Remember Jim that way
They've all found another place
Another place to play

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band

Remember bad bad Leroy Brown
Hey Jimmy touched us with that song
Time won't change a friend we came to know
And Bobby gave us Mack the Knife
Well look out, he's back in town
They'll all be there together
When they meet in one big show

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band

There's a spotlight waiting
No matter who you are
'Cause everybody's got a song to sing
Everyone's a star
(Everybody's got to be a star)

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band, band, band
