View Full Version : Marshmallow Peep Shortage???

I have NEVER encountered this before - an Easter Peep shortage. I'm stunned! I went out this morning to pick up a little Easter candy for the family, and there was not a Peep to be found. Went to the grocery store, dollar store, Walgreens and Walmart in search of the little critters. NOTHING - not a single package. Did the world all of a sudden decide that they like Peeps, and bought out this year's crop???? Are people hoarding them????? Usually there are tons of Peeps that go on sale the day after Easter because nobody took them home. Not this year - not in this neck of the woods, anyway.
So my son went out this afternoon, and he went to 5 different stores, and managed to get the very last pack of Peeps for me at Rite Aid. :) I do believe that DE stores are now devoid of any Peeps, and that none got left behind on the shelves, only to be sold at drastically reduced prices on Monday, just so that they will have a home to go to.
I'm so happy that all the local Peeps got taken to a deserving home, and none have to spend another lonely night in a store.

Seriously - I wonder what the sudden run on Peeps was all about??? I hope everyone managed to find these little goodies.

Happy Easter everyone! :D

If you were close, I would share. A couple from church just brought a package for each of my kids, and there is only one person (our 7 year old) in our family of 5 that likes Peeps.

Awwwww - thanks Karen. I'll be fine with my one pack of yellow ones, even tho I was looking for purple ones in particular. :) Just last week the stores here were loaded with them. They sure were a big seller for some reason this year, tho. Really strange..........

Oh - those are cute. :) I didn't see any of those, but then when the stores still had the others, I wasn't looking for any, so that could be why. My little yellow chickies are sitting right here by me on my desk - I want to make sure they don't get chicknapped!

Want me to send you some, Pomtzu? There is no shortage of Peeps around here and I don't especially like them. I'd rather have jelly beans. (including the black ones)

Hate to be the one to say this but none of our stores carries "Peeps" and when I read your post I kept wondering what "Peeps" were. Glad the pictures were posted or I would still be sitting here in the dark
We have every thing anyone could think of for Easter but this is the first time I hear or see "Peeps".
This year everything for Easter seems to be centered around Thomas the Train. They have tons of all kinds of Easter chocolates and toys all about Thomas----reminds me of the days "Big Bird" took over.
:DI'll settle for plain chocolate bunnies

And I thought Peeps were known worldwide! The originals used to be just yellow or pink chicks, but then the bunnies had to get in on the act too. Now they come in a variety of pretty colors too - see............

My favorite are also the chicks and it doesn't matter what color they are. I haven't had any in years though. My mom used to buy them for me and I usually don't buy them for myself. I've been sick the last few days so I haven't been to any stores lately but I'm sure we have plenty of them here.:) Enjoy your yellow chick peeps.:)

I only got 3 of the 10 right !

Wait, I just thought of something... since Pomtzu was looking for the little critters in lavender, does that make her ... a Purple Peep Needer?!

I got 6 correct, and they were actually all guesses - except for the info I got off the box of Peeps that's sitting on my desk!!!

And I'd rather be a Purple Peep Eater. :D

I got 4 correct, not good. :( I love Peeps - and bought the bunnies as soon as they came out for a girl in the office. She went crazy - hadn't seen them yet.

I saw a recipe recently that included chocolate mousse peeps - I think the quiz was out of date!!

It's rather cloudy and gloomy with a chill in the air today - not nice Easter weather at all. :(

Think I'll make a cup of hot chocolate and float a Peep on top! :D

Gloomy, rainy and cool here too. That sounds like a good way to enjoy a peep, in hot chocolate!

If Peter Piper picked a peck of peeps - how many peeps would Peter Piper pick?

Are you ageing your Peeps properly? They are not to be eaten until they are just right - and it takes a week or so.

LOLOLOL, when I read this thread this morning I was wondering how long it would take for you to reply. **note to self** Never again watch the destruction of a peep in the microwave.

They absolutely have to be properly aged. I have 4 boxes sitting in the cupboard aging as we speak!

I have never watched, or participated in, the nuking of a Peep. Wouldn't this fall under some cruelty/abuse law or act???

And would a fresh Peep destruct faster than a stale Peep? - or a bunny Peep faster than a chick Peep? Inquiring minds want to know. :p Maybe I should experiment with this when no one is at home. I wouldn't want the family to witness this and report me to the SPCP.

Don't try it! It might be a mess to clean up!:p And yes, it should be considered abuse!!!;)

Hmmm - I have an idea to minimize the "mess". Put the Peep on the turntable and set a clear glass bowl over the top of him (so that you can witness the process), and then nuke him. This might not give a true reading on the destruction time tho, since Peep will heat up faster with the bowl over him.

Watcha think?????

I hang my head in shame for what we did to this little peep.

Okay - after seeing all the pics that Slick referenced, I don't think I could ever personally harm a Peep. The horrific memory of it would haunt me till my dying day!

Besides - there are no more Peeps on the premises - I ate them all! :D
