Hello Everyone,

I just joined today and look forward to meeting many of you! I posted in health but I thought I would introduce you to my Russian Blue kitten Nakita. She will be 6 months old next week and I've had her for 2 months.

She's still growing into her ears!!

Welcome.

That is a very stunning kitty! Is that you only baby?

I was thinking, no one has a Russian blue around here? There are Tuxedo fans and Tabby and Aby fans. Fans of the orange cats and calicos and Meezers and many others. I've never heard any one speak of a Blue.
I always wanted a Blue, but when I decided to adopt, I went to petfinder.com and first looked up Russian Blues. And what I found there was any gray colored kitty. A Russian blue has to have green eyes, mind you, I don't mind mixes, but none of them even resembled a Blue in body type. I wanted a sleek, lanky cat, with an oriental body type. So, I moved on the the Meezers. At least they looked like the breed.
I am Mommy of Snowy (Siamese) Mr. Jones (tuxedo)

Nakita looks like a ton of fun! Please post many pictures.

Nakita and I thank everyone for the very *warm* welcome and comments! As I posted in Health, I'm anxiously waiting for Nakita to come out of her surgery for spaying. I'm seeing her after dinner, and then can bring her home tomorrow morning.

To answer some questions, Nikata is my only furbaby. This past summer I started renovating an old schoolhouse and the place seemed too quiet. So I picked her up after searching on the net.

For the muli-cat, pet owners on the board - how do you guys do it??? It seems like I'm running after Nakita all the time, never mind if there were 2 or 3 more Nakita's!!

As true to their breed, Nakita is a very loyal kitten. She usually follows me around to wherever I go. Also, she is quite the shoulder rider, but prefers my partners shoulders over mine (he's bigger!) :)

She is starting to shed her stripes (common in Russian Blue kittens) and is getting her double coat. She feels exactly like a silk scarf and her face is like suede (see attached pic). Also, as you can see in the earlier picture her eyes are turning that amazing emerald green from the blue eyes she had at birth.

I had to wait 4 years to get a cat of my own, but with Nakita - it was well worth the wait! Now I wish I got a cat sooner!

All Creatures Great and Small - after I posted, I started to look around and figured out why my pics had to be downloaded. Thanks for offering to help out.

As a newbie to this board it's much appreciated!

;)

Here's the last pic (for now!!)

rosethecopycat,

When my partner and I started to look for cat's I wanted something I was familiar with. I grew up with a Seal Point Siamese cat who lived to the ripe old age of 23!

I love Siamese, but wanted a calmer disposition. In our search, Russian Blues came up as a match. They are a less known breed with fewer breeders. I had to travel 4 hours to pick Nakita up since I really didn't want my cat "transported" by plane. We just lucked out that a breeder was pretty close to us.

I love all cats, and don't want to give the impression I only take on certain breeds. We look after a feral population of cats up at my cottage and hope to be more active in animal rescue in the future.

Again, thank you for your kind comments!

First off, Welcome to Pet Talk!! You're kitten is so beautiful.

I find having two cats easier than owning one. But my two cats LOVE each other so they keep each other company. They spend a lot of time chasing each other and playing with each other that they have less time to cause too much trouble.

Awww she's precious. And be calm: she has the purrfect weight for her age and type. She's a dream kitty. This soft glance -I love Abys but the Russian Blues come second.
Glad Nakita and you joined us
:)

BTW I agree: 2 cats are easier because they have lots of fun together. But I admire the more-than-5-people here. To have them clean and feeded must be a fulltime job.

WELCOME, to you and Nakita.

Oh yes, 2 is much easier. See , then the OTHER kitty can cahse Nakita all over the place, instead of you. LOL :D

Of course 13 is a piece of cake, right??!!

Rosethecopycat and Russian Blue there is another person on Pettalk who owns a Russian Blue cat.
Go check out Jen's thread here in cat general called OK, fess up.
It is about multi cat owners here and who are their favorites.
Wayne posted that his favorite cat of his dozen or so is his Russian Blue named Nikolai (gotta love those Russian names, it goes well with Nakita):)

Oh what a little doll! She reminds me of Bastet when she was that age! Russian Blues are great cats! They are quite popular in Australia because of their loyal disposition. I debated long and hard about which kind of cat I wanted as the shelter didn't have any cats that I fell in love with instantly. I am glad I chose Bastet though. Next on my list is a Russian Blue so you will have to keep me posted about temperament and other quirks with the breed!

I agree with VermontCat, the Russian cat names are wonderful. If I had Russian Blues, I think I'd call them Boris and Natasha :) Then again, our cats have ridiculous names so I am only dreaming!

Welcome Russian Blue! I hope you enjoy it here. You have already picked up that we like photos :D

I'm sorry to Wayne. I missed that post about Nikolai. What a perfect little Russian name. I think I need to see some pictures of him too.

If I had a Russian Blue I'd probably name him: Putin!:p

Welcome to Pet Talk, Russian Blue and Nakita!

She is a darling.

Per my vet's best guess, my rainbow bridge boy Sassafras Root "Sassy" was at least half a Russian Blue -- his hair was medium though. Seeing Nakita brings back happy memories. Hope she's feeling perky when she's back home tomorrow.

(Oh, and I agree -- two cats amuse each other so it's easier.)

SHe is so adorable!!!! I have a cat that is part Russian Blue, and she is also quite the handful! I don't know that the Blues are all that great with adding in another cat - Bassett let me do it but she didn't like it at all, and showed her displeasure by peeing on my stuff! :D But she is very loyal too.

I love all the pics - can't wait to see more!!! :D

Welcome to Pet Talk. Nakita is adorable. AmberLee and I went to a cat show in early November and we fell in love with the Russian Blue kittens there. I have 3 males and Storm is considered a blue cat. I don't know what breed he is though so I just say he's a DLH. He's very dog like because he follows me around and he's also very social. :) Here's a picture of the Russian Blue kittens from the cat show.

Independent of what I think about Putin: I would never give a cat a politician's name. Cats just don't deserve it;)

I must admit a friend of mine had a cat called Mao. This is the politician that sounds the most catlike:p

Apart from any political connotations, I just think PUTIN! is fun to say! can you imagine: Putin! Get off of there! Putie, come here!

And I do have the name Chairman Meow stockpiled in a list of future cat names.

It must be the pronounciation: Putie in English like Beauty!
But Pootinne in German:(

And a "pute" in German is a turkey:( :(
