About 5 weeks ago, my friend's two cats got out. She had just moved into the house and they weren't familiar with their surroundings. Fortunately she was able to get Ben. But Jerry was missing.

I went there in an attempt to trap Jerry, to no avail. I told her (don't get grossed out) she needs to pee in a spray bottle and spray it around the outside perimeter of her house every day, which she did, as well as set up a feeding station.

Then, along game Hurricane Whats-her-name which as you know, devastated many parts of CT, NY and PA. We thought for SURE he was gone.

Well, she was sitting up watching Letterman last night, not being able to sleep. She looked over at her sliding glass door and who does she see??? JERRY!!!! Meowing at her.

I am SO relieved that he's back. I've prayed every night to St. Francis for his return.

I guess Jerry now has only 8 lives left. I hope his door darting days are over.

This is great news on a grungy, rainy morning! Jerry, stay inside now and don't go running off again - your Meowmie was so worried about you.

Oh my gosh, that's wonderful! I can almost feel her relief.

I've been following the stories of two cats who've been lost - for more than a year. Sylvester (a girl) escaped from the car at a rest stop on I95; her mom tried for nearly a year - from their new out-of-state home - to find her. I don't see any more posts about her, so I guess they gave up.

BeeBop has been missing in the Willowtown area of NY for more than a year; his mom still posts several times a day on Facebook; she's convinced that one of two "rescuers" in the community has him and is offering a $2,000 (yes, two thousand dollar) reward for his safe return. He escaped the house when the movers were there to move the family to New England. Imagine being so far from where your furchild is missing!

Joy for sure that Jerry is back where he belongs!

I am SO happy that Jerry is back home with his meowmie! I have just moved, myself, and the thought of one of my precious boys going missing scares me to death! Thank goodness mine all made the move nicely and without complaints (it was just to the next town, no biggie). In fact, they seem to like the new place better than the old one!

Yaaaaay! Welcome Home, Jerry! I hope you can be a happy indoor-only kitty now. KISSES to you and Ben!

Moosmom, what is it about urine that may have attracted him? (I'm a nurse, so it takes a lot to really gross me out.) Is it the odor?

Cassiesmom,

Urine has a distinct DNA odor that cats detect. I learned this trick from a rescue friend who is also a retired nurse. You spray it around the perimeter (re-spray after rain) and the cat will know it's his territory. I'm SO glad he's back. Yvonne said he's already itching to go out again!!

Someone must've been feeding him because he was not at all skinny.

Thank you, Donna. What a good trick to know! And I'd never heard that before.

Word on that needs to get out.
