View Full Version : electric cat

the last few days have been the worst for weather in california.

the santa ana winds blew like crazy, not a good thing for hair and cats. i had a bad hair day made worse by coming home and having my cat zap me with static electricity (of course, wearing
fleece did not help), It was a classic standoff, me standing there
waiting for some loving and eddie looking at me with a level of
disgust i hadn't seen in, well, days.

the other electric related story is my clock radio...

i choose the 'snooze option' to put me to sleep (an hour's worth of talk/music), should i wake during the night, i'll hit the button for more so i can go back to sleep. the other night i hear a scratching noise above my head and thought nothing of it.
that same day i hit the room light switch, the radio pops on and scared the crap outta me.....a few days later the radio is blaring
when i get home.....

apparently someone has learned by scratching the top of the radio it will produce noise to sleep by...

i am sure there are people with stories of garage door openers, remote controls or ????????

now, if i can just get him to use a calculator and write checks...

My cats are very staticy (sp?) in the wintertime. In the summer I can pet them and pet them and never get a shock, and now that it's cold out whenever I pet them and then touch something else, I get a shock. Why are they like this in the winter?

Calvin has learned what button to push to make the stereo turntable start spinning. This is particularly jarring when he tuns it on at 4 in the morning to watch it spin and there is an actual record on the turntable and the volume is at 11! Quite disorienting being woken to "Heart of Glass" at top volume! I now secure the stereo arm so he can watch the table spin to his hearts content with zero volume and no wear and tear on the expensive needle!

Bastet if there is anything hanging on a door handle will pull on it to open the door. We don't get the static problem in australia.

What joy to read an 'early' Phred story - had me giggling away as usual - thanks Phred for bringing it to our notice.

Richard - cats pushing buttons - YES!! When the remote is on the arm of the chair and Dan walks on it, changed channels - just at the exciting or critical part of whatever is on - darn cat!

We had this electricity problem too a few weeks ago. It was cold and very dry... I got zapped from the cats all the time and they hated me that week... funny think is that I did it more than my boyfriend, he was OK while I was getting electricuted from everything I touched!

I used to go through this, until I bought a humidifier.

My old tom got to the point that every winter he'd cringe when you went to pet him, because he knew he'd get zapped.

As far as buttons.... He just hogs the remote, and pushes those buttons if he feels he's not getting enough attention.

I rub my cats and my clothes with the Bounce dryer sheets. Thinking about trying the Swiffer sheets for dusting too. But not the wet ones for mopping:p

Cinder & Smokey-

No, no ill effects. But I'm going to stop. Don't even want to take a chance. I'll still rub my clothes, I guess.

Thanks fellas!

Don't stop using the Bounce based on our comments!

Dad read about the Bounce Idea on a pet BBS -
LOTTA people said they used it on their pets!

And the girl he traded e-mails with at Bounce acted like she
HAD to say what she did...
Reading between her lines - it seemed like SHE thought it was safe -
but that the COMPANY answer was "We dunno..."

Be nice if a Vet or somebody who actually KNOWS what's ON a Bounce Sheet could jump in here.

If it doesn't seem to bother cats I may try to bounce sheets. Arizona get VERY dry in the winter, after I get out of my car I always fear touching metal after that because I get shocked really bad. I can't brush my cats because everytime I put the brush on them they get shocked. I have to do one brush then touch it to my palm so it lightly shocks me then do one more brush... it's such a pain. It ends up taking forever to brush them.

The cat water fountain (Drinkwell) we have adds a lot of moisture to the air here and really cuts down on the zaps. Maybe it would help you, too?

I get a lot of zaps on my car and in the pet food aisle of the grocery store for some reason though. Maybe I should carry Bounce in my purse???
