Doesn't he look like a funky colored Meezer?? ;)

Here's a picture of a Korat...it really does look like he'll end up looking like this:

Wow!
He is so cool looking, very silvery! You are right though it does look like he has darker meezer points too, how cool!

His color is truly interesting. It reminds me of roaning in horses - by the time a foal sheds the foal coat for the first time, the roaning appears. In horses it is much like Basil - the body color looks roany, but the legs (points) and head are dark. Some roans even have spots like Basil, these are called "corn spots". I am not aware that roaning occurs in cats, but I am nowhere near a color genetics expert.

My own cat Bo started out pure white as a kitten, and as he got older this ears, tail and face mask darkened. Then by the time he was a year old, he got a large flame patch over his body. He has blue eyes, so I figure he has Siamese blood in him.

Basil is so cool! I can't believe he has that one little 'tatoo' on his back side!

I hope Boscibo is wrong about Basil and roaning...think how BIG little Basil will grow to be! Like, 14 hands? Maybe taller! And, the litter box may become an issue, AND, the food will have to change, he he he.

Basil is sooo beautiful. I didn't realize he was such a short coated little fella'. Thanks for posting the updates.

All I can say is wow! What a chameleon cat! In that first picture he looks like a cat from the neck up, and a rabbit from the paws down :D Looks like he might keep his dark points, it'll be really interesting to see how he finally matures :)

I know Siamese cats are born white and develop their points with time. I've never heard of a cat who is born black and "roans" to pointed coat. I'm going to a cat show today. Maybe I'll pick some brains and report back later!

I didn't have any luck at the cat show finding out about color changes like Basil's. One thing did occur to me: a spontaneous mutation. A lot of cat colors and characteristics started off as carefully-husbanded mutations. You may want to post Basil's pictures on a vet school website and see what kind of opinions you get.

Shhhhh :) This is an especially timely remark...at the shelter David and I volunteer at, there is a BEAUTIFUL black kitty girl named Ebony. I've fallen for her...but, can't bring her home...three is our limit for now. :(

Oh Karen, he really is a treasure...I love him to pieces. He is my constant companion at home and is such a little lover. His purr has been in hyper-mode since we got him and now sounds sweaky! :) He is an incredible addition. :)

Thanks for checking! I'm very curious what he's going to turn out like...or if he's done turning colors.

Good idea...I'll check out UC Davis' site....thanks! :)

Funny..... we once had a cat which started off as a very unusual gray color (like Basil is now) but ended up being totally black!!! haha... just the opposite of what your Basil is doing! Hmmm....
