View Full Version : Overheating snake...?

So it's (finally) hit mid-to-upper 80's here, and I don't have air conditioning. I've noticed that Bianca's tank seems to be getting a little warm: the warm side has been at or above 90, and the cool side has been hovering around 80 degrees, where it should be 70. She's started spending almost all her time on the 'cool' side of the tank, and I'm worried that she's getting too warm. I was thinking of just unplugging the heating pad, but I don't know whether she'd get too cold if I did that....

If anyone has any thoughts on what to do, it would be more than welcome.

From what I know..my brother used to breed & keep snakes, 80 is only slightly on the warm side. 70 which is 21°C is rather cool my brother said 75 would be more ideal. My brother also said you can turn down the heating pad or if it only has on and off then turn it off for the hottest part of the day (between 10 am-2 pm). He also said to make sure she has water available to soak it cause that will help her if she gets too warm.

I'll have to try that, thanks. :)

Also, it's better for a snake to be a little bit too cold than a little bit too warm, so it doesn't hurt to turn off the heater on warm days.

Out of curiosity, what kind of thermometer are you using to measure temperatures?
