Animal Abusers Would Be Named Under Bills in 26 States
"Those who batter, abuse or kill dogs and cats would get the same public scorn as sex offenders in bills introduced in legislatures throughout the U.S. ..."

I did not see anywhere the whole list of the 26 states, that would be good to have, so Pet Talkers could all contact their state reps to support the proposed laws.

All states need to get on this bandwagon. I too, would like to see what 26 states are proposing this.

I know in CT there's a bill they're still trying to pass regarding a Domestic Violence/Animal Abuse Registry. ALL states should pass this animal abuse law. The judges in our state suck when it comes to convicting animal abusers. Makes me sick.

Got an animal abuse case coming up next month. It's a continuance of a guy up on 7 counts of animal cruelty. Eye witnesses SAW HIM beat several cats with a 2x4 after tossing 7 of them to the ground from a front porch. I've been to every single hearing. This next court date the judge will decide whether or not to approve his application for AR (accelerated rehab). She KNOWS we're sitting front and center and watching the proceedings. My friend, who's a DA delivered a letter I wrote begging her to deny his application, to make him pay restitution to the vet who tried to save the cats' lives and to do community service, IF she does grant it.

STAY TUNED!!!

I just e-mailed Chris Christoff, the author of this article, asking if he had a list of the 26 states. I'll let you know if so and which states are on it.

Since he's in Michigan, I told him I'm in Ann Arbor, and I'd contacted Rep. Santana (mentioned in the article) and am waiting to hear back from him on how I can help.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is also working on this, with a petition at http://www.exposeanimalabusers.org/section.php?id=163

I'm happy to see my state NJ is considering this route, I just hope they do it and not just sit on their hands. Animals lives are at stake here.
