View Full Version : Edwina's New Friend

Edwina's Secretary

Recently I brought back a bunch of black walnuts from my parents home and gave them to the squirrels. Edwina and I have a favorite -- Shirley is friendlier than most and frankly...prettier. She has become devoted. She follows me around the yard every time I go out. She waits by the door and even looks in the house. It was warm this weekend so we had the kitchen door open.

I SAID.....IS ANYBODY HOME?????

When it cooled off and I shut the door...she and Edwina continued their conversation elsewhere....

AWWWW!! Shirley is adorable!

At my Grandparents cottage we had a pair of Mallard Ducks who would come to the front porch at lunch time and announce their arrival. We'd feed them bread and give them a bowl of water. We named them Soda and Quackers. :D

One year they brought their babies with them!

How sweet. :) When I was growing up we had a pet squirrel for a while named Gray. When we let him go back into the wild, he would sometimes jump on peoples shoulders and scare them. :)

LOL!!! Those two are so cute together. Shirley may start knocking on the door when she gets hungry or wants to visit Edwina. I can just see it: (tiny tap tap tap on door) Can Edwina come out to play? How bout a snack?:D

How cute - that last pic is a classic!

I remember I was on holidays in the US once and I saw some squirrels while walking around Harvard University. Everyone else was used to them, but I was following them everywhere, just amazed by the cute critters.

Edwina has Shirley and I think in the past we had Laverne! :D We had a friendly little thing that always came up onto the deck and taunted Trevor and Andy through the glass. Then later on we found that we had a squirrel living in our attic!  It had gotten in through the attic fan! I got someone to come out and capture the little thing but apparently not before she gave birth to two little ones up there! They were driven far, far away from here and released. I wonder if they could have wandered to Chicago! :D

That is so funny that Shirley follows you around! We've got some squirrels around too, but they all run as soon as we open the door. And for some reason T & P never seem to see them, even though they are right outside the window.

Those pictures are priceless. Maybe it is time for Edwina to have sibling with whom to share her wit and wisdom.

We have tons of squirrels around here, and since I have so many birdfeeders I have a popular backyard for neighborhood rodents. My kitty goes nuts when he sees squirrels or chipmunks out back - he plasters himself up against the window, starts pawing at the glass, pacing back and forth, and making the little "machine gun" noise that was mentioned on another thread. The squirrels could care less about him, though - they know he's not a threat;)

The relationship between Edwina and Shirley has deepened during the year. This is a photo from early in the summer.....

Some years ago, we planted an apple tree - which has since become a "cafeteria" of sorts for deer, squirrels, raccoons....this year we managed to harvest about 5 apples for ourselves

The deck seems to be a perfect dining room for this fat little fella! It's hilarious to watch them put these big apples in their mouths and try to run away with them....their head gets too heavy and they end up tripping and rolling over the apple, tumbling with it to the edge of the trees.

Scenes like this also typically find Ritz with her face plastered to the patio window or furiously pacing back and forth.

Tuxluvr that picture is just precious and worthy of framing! What a cute little guy he is and what a comical scene that must be! Oh I bet Ritzy has a wonderful time at the window watching the goings on. I can just imagine her tail whipping as this little guy munches on his feast! Great picture!!
