Has anyone had a dog with luxating patella?

If so, what were your experiences? Did it require surgery?

My newest foster dog has it, and I'm a bit concerned.

Thank you.

My current foster dog has it too :(

The vet said it won't require surgery at this point. We sort of want to avoid surgery because of my foster's age anyway.

I hope your foster baby will be okay too!

My Pumpkin (toy poodle) had it and he did need surgery. The vet put in a pin and he was as good as new and lived to be 17. The luxating patella is a knee cap that slides out of place. In the early days with Pumpkin the vet simply showed me how to slide it back in place when it would go out. It happened so often to him (usually when jumping up, and we all know how much poodles enjoy jumping! ;) ) and many times a little yelp would come out of him so we knew it hurt and we opted for the surgery.
