I searched polyps/fibroids and found this (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=134452&highlight=Polyps%2FFibroids) thread. It was actually very helpful in my questions. But I'm curious if any others have experienced anything like this. We have new members and this thread is 4 years old.

I was just diagnosed (I guess that's what you'd call it) with a polyp (or possibly a fibroid) and two smaller fibriods. My doctor wants to go in and remove the polyp/fibroid. I guess she wants to do this because I have been having constant, and sometimes severe, bleeding since the end of July. She said it is an out-patient procedure and the recovery time is a couple of days. I do not know the details of the surgery because I have not met with the doctor yet. I was supposed to last week but she got stuck in surgery. I have an appointment on the 26th, but my boyfriend (and myself) think I should not have to wait that long. So my doc left me a message yesterday (kinda surprised since it was Sunday) and said I could go ahead and schedule the surgery and would meet with her the day before to go over details.

Anyway, I guess my main question here is will it really be two days recovery time? And is this painful? I see in the thread I posted above some said it was painful while some said it wasn't. I guess I'm just scared because I've never had any kind of surgery except oral surgery and a cryo procedure on cells due to HPV (that was painful, but not too bad).

Any information would be appreciated.

I think how much it hurts, and recovery time probably varies person to person, frankly. And how are they going to remove them? It's good that she has said you can move it up earlier. Oftentimes schedules of surgery depends on so many factors beyond the doctor's control that it gets tricky.

Cindy, I'm sorry to hear this. I also have some fibroids but my Dr. said they were quite small so they didn't need to be removed. I also used to have very heavy bleeding during my periods. I ended up having a hydrothermal ablation which was an out patient procedure. It was the best thing I ever did and now I only have what I'd call heavy spotting or hardly anything at all. My recovery time was also supposed to be about 2 days but it took longer because I ended up getting a virus so I had to stay home for at least a week or so. I only had some cramping as a side effect and then for a quite a while I had some discharge which was normal. I hope that everything will go well. Good luck.:)

Well, I haven't got the appointment set yet. I'm HOPING it is before the 26th. I put a call in this morning and I'm waiting to hear back from them. They have to check with my insurance first too. Boy, I hope this is covered. Or at least some of it is.

Thank you Tracey. I'm hoping this is an easy fix too. Again, since I didn't get to have the consultation appt with the doctor there are still a lot of unanswered questions we (Bruce has more than I do) have to ask.

Wish I could be more helpful, but when I had issues way back when, it ended up with a hysterectomy at only 29 - and a 12 day hospital stay. Now it's mostly outpatient procedures and biopsies and a very short recovery time. Wishing you a good outcome, Cindy.

Karen, I just realized I didn't answer your question. They will be using a hysteroscopy in the procedure. So no incision....I think (and hope).

I agree with your sister - however the docs won't do that unless it's medically necessary. Frankly, I was absolutely delighted to be rid of it, since it was nothing but problems, and I was done having kids too.

I will NOT tell you all I went through because it's unnecessary and I don't think it would be beneficial. I ended up having a dermoid cyst and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I had a hysterectomy about a year ago. That decision, however, should be yours and your doctor's.

What I will say is if you need anyone to talk to about it; let me know. I am here. Good luck again!

My mom said no, because then you have to deal with all the hormone stuff. Maybe that is different for everyone individually as well. But she didn't like it.

Thank you. I just hope it is either a polyp or fibriod and not something worse. I hope they don't get in there and discover its worse than the ultrasound showed. Especially since she's not even sure if it is a polyp or fibroid (the big one).

Has anyone ever had the hysteroscopy procedure done before? I'm wondering if they have to put me under for it. I am scared of that. I've only been put under once for oral surgery (wisdom teeth extraction). Oh well, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

So the procedure (surgery) is scheduled for the 28th. The only problem with that is we have just sent out invites for our annual Halloween Party which is on the 29th.
I don't want to cancel the party. I think I will be fine. But Bruce said if I have the surgery that day we should cancel the party. :( I don't know what to do. :confused:

:( I know. You're right. :( But I don't want to ruin it for everyone else. I don't see what the problem is.....if I get tired or sore I can just go back in the bedroom and rest. No big deal. But Bruce won't have that.

The only issue with having everything removed is the hormones, but only because doctors really don't understand how important hormones are. My hormones were so high I went into withdrawal 24 hours after the surgery. the hot flashes were bad. I had to be on them for several years. I don't seem to need the hormones any more. I had my levels checked recently but I need to get the results from the doctor and check with a specialist.

I don't miss the parts, either.

Give Bruce a hug and thank him for being concerned about you - it is probably better to err on the side of caution and postpone the party a week. After all, he will otherwise spend the whole party worried about you, no matter what - and that's no fun for anyone!

I researched the procedure last night and on three different sites it said most women can return to normal activities immediately. Minor cramping (which should subside in 24 hours) and light bleeding seem to be the only side effects.

I don't know that he'll want to postpone it a week. Since it is a Halloween party, we always have it the weekend closest to Halloween. He just wants to cancel it all together. :( I'll ask about maybe having it on the 5th instead. A party is a party, right? :p Or I guess we could move it UP a week and have it on the 22nd. Hmmm.....those are two possibilities.

Well he shot down the idea of moving the party date. He said he didn't want to change it this late in the game. And I thought "Hmmm....we didn't even have the invites OUT at this time last year!!!"
I'll have to wait until I get home to talk to him about it more. He also said changing the date of the surgery is up to me. Sigh....:confused: I'm not good at decisions. :(

I had polyps when I was in my 20's and the dr. would burn them off in his office. It wasn't painful, I bled a little but just for that day and I had no down time whatsoever. My experience probably doesn't help you that much, though.

Thanks though Mary. But my doctor said this is going to be at the surgery center, not in the office.

So Bruce finally just said to do whatever I wanted in regards to the party and my surgery. So the surgery is on the 28th and the party is the next night. I think I will be just fine. And I can always just sit and relax, my friends will understand (this is if anyone even shows).
