View Full Version : Betty and her kits- cuteness overload #94

Ok, so we live in a house that consists of two flats. We are living upstairs with Kiri and Orion and Christine lives downstairs. With Mollie, Jeanie, Karlo (who are cats) and 3 rabbits (who live in the garden) and even some fishies.
Christine has a wonderful catproof garden, so from our balcony we (and Orion and Kiri) have a little zoo to watch. Christine is active in rescuing- so all of her 3 kitties are rescues, the 2 white ladies come from Mallorca while Karlo is a Bavarian local.
This is Karlo- he is a big guy and you can see he has a purrfect life.
http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4652

Now something happened: Christine went to a bbq party and there was that kitty who gatecrashed the party. She was pretty but not in good shape, obviously she had a bad URI and she looked pregnant. Christine began to investigate and found that her former owner had passed away and the relatives just left her outside, fending for her own.

So Christine took her to the vet first and then decided to take her home. Turns out, her URI was only a little cold, nothing dangerous. She IS pregnant alright and seems to have had babies before. She spent a week in Christine's bedroom and we found she has a lovely purrsonality- cuddly and sweet. However she didn't tell us her name.
Since this weekend she has met the other kitties - it went rather well although there was a little trouble between the cream pink lady and Mollie and Jeanie. We think it is maybe because she is prgenant and feels very protective.
And so without much further ado:

Here is our pregnant girl, looking much better after 2 weeks of regular feeding and some vet care.

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4654

And we would be very happy for some name suggestions. What do you think?

*Squeal* a female orangie! WOW! I've heard that orangies tend more to males than females, so she is very special. She has a soft round face!

A pox on that owner's relatives! He / she would be sad to know pretty lady was booted out to fend on her own! (hmm, considering she's had kits before, maybe not??) Anyway, she is one lucky gal!

Nice that she has a great purrsonality, too.

BTW, yes Karlo seems to have a very hard life, got himself all worn out, ha haaa. Give him a cuddle from me next time you see him!

Oh and Orange-Buff female. Beautiful.

You could name her after some famous redheads?
Or gatecrashers?

She is indeed beautiful! Maybe you could call her Strawberry as her colouring is strawberry blonde? I used to have a Welsh cat with the same colouring whom I called Morgan Le Fay after the red haired witch of Arthurian legend. Please give her some pets for me.

I instantly thought "Beth" as a name, as I have a very pregnant human friend named Beth, who has one little blonde daughter and is expecting her next any day now!

She is so lovely! A female orangey is rare, but I have seen them. There is an orange in my neck of the woods called the Valencia Orange. I think Val would be a good name for her.

She's gorgeous and I hope that her pregnancy will go smoothly.:) I had an orange female cat growing up and I never knew that they were rare until I heard about it here on PT. I like the name Peaches for a female orangie.:) I named my female orangie Puff because she was a long haired cat.

And very dedicated to her country.

Oddly enough, I was thinking of your suggestion, when I made mine. Elizabeth Rex would be a great formal name and Beth a fabulous nickname.

I've decided that if I ever come to own a female orangie, especially a light colored "blonde" one, her name will be Ginger Rogers. :D

Barbara - she's gorgeous! Isn't it amazing what just a few weeks of proper care and love can do to a cat? I hope you can find a perfect name for her and I can't wait to see her babies.:love::love:

I am sorry for not having posted- I had a bad week with more dental work than I asked for:eek:

The kitty of whom I like to think as Caramel or Ginger or Betty (I forgot that Christine asked for no "th" ;)) sits in the garden under a bench right now and looks happy although it is raining around her.

Ok here are the news: Kitty has a name and it is Betty. Christine thinks that Betty, Jeany and Molly goes well together. Betty is named after redhead Elizabeth I - but you know that we Germans are not so good with "th";)
And her is a picture of the young lady:
http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4672

She gets rounder all the time and now you can feel the babies playing ;)

I also have a star picture of her new sister Jeany to add. She sits in the fruit basket in the kitchen window- well she is a pretty white fruit;)

My late mother's name was Elizabeth, but she was called Betty. We are of German descent, also. My maternal grandparents were from Germany. The only thing ruining this sentimental picture is that my mother did not like cats. Too bad, Mom, you've got a namesake now and she's a beautiful kitty girl!:D

So you may have heard that I was not allowed to read since Tuesday because of cataract surgery. And Tuesday night it happened: Betty gave birth to 4 lovely stripeys.
I think it is very likely that daddy was a tabby with dominant genes because the first day you just couldn't tell any difference between the little mice.
Here is proud Betty with the 1 day old kittens.

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4710

As I was staying home I had to do the babysitting. Tough job but someone has to do it;)
The second day we had the vet coming in because what we had not seen in the kitty pile was that there was one placenta stuck in between. The (in the literary sense) bloody stuff had glued the kittens together and we could not see whose placenta it really was and what umbilical cord needed cutting. So we were afraid we would hurt them. As soon as the vet had separated them, cut the last umbilical cord they could arrange themselves much better.

Here are the 2 day old mousies:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4711

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4712

Betty is a wonderful mom and purrs and purrs. She lets you hold them and is absolutely relaxed with us. When you pick one of the babies up she couldn't care less- but the babies meeow like tiny birdies.

Here they are at 3 days old:
http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=177&pictureid=4713

Sorry that the picture isn't sharp- I do not want to torment them with too many pictures. I saw them today and must say they begin to look a little bit different to me.
I hope to have some more pics on Monday- then I'm in for the other eye and cannot read again for some days.
But I can babysit the kittens- I think that is wonderful timing:love::love::love:

Betty just looks SO happy and proud! I love her happy feet while the mice are nursing. :D:love::love::love:

Interesting you say "mice" - of course they are that tiny - but in my family growing up even adults were called mice! "Time to feed the mice."

Glad the vet got them separated safely. They look like they will thrive!

Those babies are just so darn cute. I noticed in the second photo that a little orange from Mom is coming through those stripes. It appears that she mated with only one other cat... ahemmmm. Good girl.

Betty must be so happy to have such an attentive group of monitors available to her. And a Vet, too! Wow. I hope this is her last litter and that she will find a good home ... and of course, I hope her babies thrive and also find good homes.

I wish people would spay and neuter their animals.

I love widdle kittens so, SO.... I would not make a good foster Mom, as I would name them all, and TRY to keep them all.

Keep those photos coming. You know, we are all fans of photos of kittens....

Betty will probably stay in the house- if she is a little nicer with the other cats that is. We think she is protective right now- but she even gave 15 lb Karlo a run for his money. But she definitely will be neutered. She is now in a cat proof garden with 2 other ladies (neutered) and one neutered tom- so we can wait a little with the neutering.
Right now Christine has homes for 2 babies. She wants to talk one of them into taking 2 and talks about keeping one. I tell her- after you had them 8-10 weeks you'll probably be happy to see them go. Trouble, your name is kitten! I just can't wait for them to begin mischievous and moving and ....:love::love:

Hi Barbara, I'm happy to hear that your surgery went well. I had cataract surgery on both eyes about 3 years ago and the difference is astounding! It took a short while to get used to seeing so clearly without glasses. It was well worth it!

Betty really has a cold- she has problems breathing and sounds like an old door in a spooky movie. The vet has been there 2 times and left some antibiotic stuff that will not harm the kittens and which she takes as if she knew how important it is to stay healthy.
The vet was very happy with the kittens - they are healthy little fuzzbombs;)
So the first picture I have today has been at 10 days, the second at 12 days. I feel I can see them growing.

And we have some very good news: a co-worker of mine just came and said: "I hear you have access to kittens!!!" She plans to get a kitten for her little girl and today the whole family visited. The little girl (about 5) was very nice and sweet with the kittens. They will have her allergy tested- very responsible and now the only worry we have is "How can we get them to take two;)"
The kittens seemed to like the idea too- they are some stout little guys and girls who feel absoultely safe in this world:)

They are so sweet. The second picture, far left...adorable face. Hope the mama cat is feeling better soon. I seem to remember my cat Mama getting a cold when she went back to the vet to get spayed after she had the kittens. I am thinking her kittens never got sick but my two older cats did get a cold. The kittens probably have good immunity from their mama. :)

The babies are beyond adorable and look like real little sweethearts. And I do see mischief on their sweet little faces. Here's hoping they all find loving furever homes.

I'm sorry to hear that Mama Betty has a cold. Betty, feel better soon.

Sending lots of scritchies and lovies to Mama and her beautiful babies

Hope Mama Betty takes her meds & starts to feel better soon. The kits
are sooooo cute.:) I can really see a difference in the two pictures. There
is a real awareness in their faces in the 2nd pic. Growing like weeds.:D

Such adorable babies! Thanks for updating us on them. My friend Beth - the pregnant human I mentioned, still hasn't had her baby, but if it doesn't happen by then, she has an appointment to be induced Thursday.

Have you tried to tell them the theory: two kittens keep each other company/busy, and out of trouble....? Or do you think that would be an out and out lie? Hehehehehehe!

I really do believe kittens love to have kitten company.

The photos make me want to adopt one myself. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I am so happy you have had the vet look at Mom and the kittens. Not many folks do that early on, and end up with problems down the road. Smart idea!

How soon will you allow the kittens to go to their new homes? Once they are weaned? I have forgotten the recommended adoptions week. My breeder of my Abys would not let them go until their 12th week. I think that is a bit much, but Abys are a tad slow in development.

It will be hard to see them go, I bet. It would be for me. Just as long as you can keep in touch with the owners, it will be fun for you and the new fur families.

Such a nice thing you and your neighbor have done. So nice. :):):love:

Betty feels definitely better- and she is very good in taking her meds. We will not send the kittens to their new home before they are 8 weeks old and we would prefer 10 weeks.
Their mews have been like very little birds now but they are getting louder.
Betty does not want the kittens to explore. She is a protective mom. But when you take one out and sit it on a rug it will stop meowing and behaves curious:D Of course we put them back right away but they seem to be happy and ready to find out about the world- we :love::love: them!

The fun starts- the kittens are more active than ever. Up to now only one fell out of the suitcase but it is only a matter of days:

Betty is really doing an excellent job- you can see how much bigger the kittens are.

Being close to mom is a wonderful thing....

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4794

.....but wrestling seems to be a lot of fun.

I'm not sure whether I could pass an intelligence test....;)

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4793

..but for a cuteness test we would be champions...

don't you think so????

Well, I'm a little confused here... are these a neighbor's cat who had kittens, or have you adopted more?

The mom is so beautiful and the kittens are utterly cute. What a great time you must have! :D

Give them all some kisses from me and Fister.

Barbara

Randi, if you go to the start of the thread you'll see that they are living in our house downstairs and I had the chance to take care of them while I was at home with my eyes.
I am the godmother;), helping with socializing and adoption- but Christine who found Betty has the biggest job.

And what a job, but someone has to do it! :D Enjoy your time with them!

Hope your eye operation was successful. I may need one, too.

Barbara, can I just ask you...do you know a product called Tipiak - Cereales Gourmandes - Melange orignal? I thought it was cereal, but it's not. On the packet is written in French, but I don't understand that. Do you know how to make a meal of it?

There's no question about it, if these babies were in a "cuteness contest" it would be a race for second place!!! They just get cuter with every new picture. It's wonderful to see them growing and thriving under your loving care, Barbara. Thank you for all you have done to help this beautiful kitty family!

Could I ask you to give Betty and the babies some gentle lovies from me? How is Betty feeling? Has that cold cleared up?

Barbara
10-09-2011, 01:30 PM
The cold is better but she still has two teeth that have to go and we are not sure whether that anyway is the source of her breathing problems. She looks healthy and she eats like a little piggy- which is a good thing and goes right through to the babies, so we hope that as soon as they eat canned food she can have these teeth out.
I'm absolutely happy to deliver these kisses. When you take the babies and keep them close to your chest Betty really watches you ;) But the babies are good- they love already being cuddled tenderly.

This time you get pictures of 2 different times: the first post will be about 10-12 Oct. After that I went to Frankfurt Bookfair and didn’t have time to post:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4822

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4823

The kittens get cuter by the day- and quite a bit more active. The suitcase in which they were born is gone and they have the run of the room.

They look like very good little kittens but the only moment they are really good is when they sleep ;)

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4824

And even then….

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4825

They begin to climb- especially legs (sorry for dirty sweatpants- Siegmar had been in the garden):

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4827

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4826

They think their mom is nice to play with too:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4828

And: 2 of them have started eating and all of them go to the litterbox.

Barbara

Now a week later:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4829
We are getting bigger!

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4830

We plan a lot of mischief…

e.g. wrestling:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4831

We have stolen Karlo’s hammock:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4832

We play in the litterbox:

http://petoftheday.com/talk/picture.php?albumid=481&pictureid=4833

And sometimes we produce perfect little tootsie rolls:

Wow, they are just the cutest. They should go quickly. Plus, you have had them vetted all along, so they are healthy too! What a great combination. So many times, kittens are loaded with diseases and illnesses, but these guys were raised in a home and had vet attention too! The little kitten I found on the road a couple of years ago had every parasite the vet had ever seen and it took hundreds of dollars to get the kitten back to good health.

I love all the photos. I can't imagine how active they must be. I would love to have four kittens climbing on me! I'll be right over!

Hugs and headbumpies to them all.

Are you sure that orange cat is the MOM? They don't look like they belong to her! LOL.
