View Full Version : Bottle baby madness!

OK, I dunno if one bottle baby counts as madness, but I'm exhausted!

On 8/8, a nice lady found a baby kitten being looked over by a couple of neighborhood dogs. She picked up the kitty, and found no mama in sight, so she brought kitty to the nearest vet hospital. My sister in law works there.

She already has a foster puppy and didn't really want another foster, so she took him home thinking she'd call around and see if any local rescues would take him in. BUT before she could make a single call, I snatched him up!!

My sis in law names all of her fosters after plants, so to keep with that theme I've named him Parsley. He was about 2 days old when I got him, and he's THRIVING! We had a scare on the third day with some bloody stool, but he was prescribed the teeniest dose of clavamox I've ever seen and has been doing fantastic ever since!

Here's a picture from each day that I've had him, in order...

The day I got him:

Oh my goodness, this thread needs a cuteness warning!

Parsley is :love::love::love::love:

Thank you for caring for him / her. (Do we know yet?)

I know several on here have cared for bottle babies, and all needed a break of a day or 2, to SLEEP! :p

You ARE going to keep this wee one, aren't you? ;)

Parsley is a wee boy! My local low cost spay/neuter clinic has a 12 week waiting list, so I got him on it the day after he came home. :)

Both hubby and I want to keep him, but it's up to my MIL since we're staying at her place right now. She's VERY tolerant of my assorted animals, but we'll see...

Oh he is precious. My brother nursed his current kitty Louie, from two weeks. Totally loving cat. Our mother helped since he was also working, too.

Small, maybe. Mr. Spunky was that small at 6 weeks. Small breed or malnourished? I was surprised that he reached 10 lbs.

Keep up the good work. That is great that you can do this.

Small? Parsley is two weeks old today, he's right on schedule for growth!! :D

That's great. I was actually commenting on Moon's comment about small. I've been around enough kittens and pups to know how small they are and how fast they grow. 6-week old kittens are large compared to 1 week old.

New born kittens are teeny, though, so I was surprised when the lady told me he was 6 weeks. The vet concurred but only because he was active and eating on his own. He was just a midget. And he didn't grow much for a long time.

Keep growing Parsley.

We had another scare with bloody stool this morning. Took him straight in to the white coats, where a fecal revealed a single roundworm and nothing else. The vet still thinks he might have coccidia or a bacterial infection. He was given the teeniest dose of dewormer EVER and we were given a bottle of clavamox...though we're not starting the clavamox back up unless the blood re-appears. So far, so good.

The vet did say that otherwise he's in STELLAR health for a kitten his age. She gushed over his thick, soft, clean coat and said that we're doing a fantastic job feeding him up, so that was a huge relief. Also, the entire staff stopped in at some point for a quick snuggle, because he's irresistable!

The little guy is exhusted, so unless he wakes up and looks like he wants out for snuggles, I'm skipping pictures tonight. I'll pick them back up tomorrow!

I printed out those pics of Parsley and took them in to my mom in hospital. We have always been nuts for cats in our family.

She just LOVED them! We went for a walk for a while, then she wanted to get back in bed - then she wanted to see them again. :)

"Parsley" was also a nickname she had for my sister. "Darcia" became "Darce", then "Parcel" then "Parsley" then "Parsley-Pants"! The latter would be a cute nickname for your little guy. :)

Thanks, Parsley, for brightening my mom's day - and mine too!:love::love:

Quick update! I had a REALLY long shift today so photo uploads are going to have to wait, but I wanted to drop in.

We got the official OK to keep him! My hubby talked to his mom and she agreed! I guess we're a three cat household now! Charlie and Sherpa now approach him with friendliness and curiosity, no more hissing! Since Charlie has flare ups of feline herpes occasionally, we're keeping both cats away from direct contact until he's had some vaccines, but the outlook for a peaceful household is good!

When he got upgraded from foster to permanent cat, he also got a new name: Kyuubei! Right now he's asleep in my lap.

Tonight he took his first few licks of KMR from a dish. He lost his balance and face-planted into the KMR partway through, so once he had sneezed it all out he wanted the bottle back, but it was a start!

My dog Jasper is very concerned about all of the goings on with HIS KITTEN, and wants to be involved with all aspects of kitten care. Kyuubei is in return very interested in Jasper, and watches him constantly. I think Kyuubei and Jasper are going to be very good friends.

OMG! It is like opening up a flood of memories of my little Caramella when I first got her!! It brings tears to my eyes just remembering. What a joy it was taking care of a bottle baby and being a year old now.... you wouldn't believe how big she is now and how spoiled she is for her "Mama"..

Goodness, what a joy it was taking care of her and now, I am not sure who takes care of who!

Parsley is so adorable and you will enjoy him so much. All those "first" are wonderful and I am still experiencing them with Caramella...her first bug in the house... her first lizard she saw run across the window.. You are in for so much fun and joy... Enjoy every moment, they grow so fast!!

See how big she is now?

i haven't had the time to visit Pet Talk much - and how very glad I got here today! God bless you mightily for taking care of this tiny one - whose cuteness goes above and beyond! I've never had to care for a bottle baby, but I have a friend who did - even took the kitten to the hospital for the day when she herself had to have tests. (Hubby fed the kitten out in the truck.) Priscilla grew into a gorgeous - also white! - cat. May you all have many, many happy and healthy years together!

I also have a white kitten named Kimba who is just about Caramella's age. He was wandering around our apartment complex after his owner had moved and abandoned him! He, too, is named after a cartoon character that I love. My other two cats are not too fond of him, but that is slooooowly getting better. He has gone froma slightly wild feral into a loving, purring, lap cat. Enjoy your precious baby! Whities are very special furbabies.

OMG I keep looking at the pics . She is soo gorgeous :D. I had a baby my brother found on his construction site under a piece of 2x4 and her mama was trying to kill her probably because she was so disformed but to me it made me love her so much more. She had thumbs and back toes that hung by barely anything. When I got her I took her to the vet he said I am not even she sure she is a cat she only walked sideways or hopped around. She was 3 months old and the size of your beauty. I had to bottle feed her and everyone always told me she would be the sweetest kitty because bottle fed kittys are much more affectionate lol they were so wrong she banned anyone and everyone from coming in my house by playing sleeping than attacking the face. Or she would come up while you were sleeping and slap you in the face. But she was my love I even named her after my Idol Lucille Ball. My mom passed 7-12-10 and since I worked non stop my momma spent tons of time with her and right after my momma passed suddenly lucille started acting weird and she passed also. I have another kitty I swear she sees Lucys spirit
