She was only 27 but I can't say this is really that unexpected.

Amy Winehouse found dead, aged 27

Winehouse's recent career was overshadowed by drink and drug problems

Last month, the north Londoner pulled out of her European tour after she was jeered at her comeback gig in Serbia for appearing too drunk to perform.

For 90 minutes, she mumbled through parts of songs and at times left the stage - leaving her band to fill in.

The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her musical career in recent years.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained.

London Ambulance Service had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two ambulances but the woman died, it said.

Winehouse had won widespread acclaim, aged 20, with her 2003 debut album, Frank.

But it was 2006's Back to Black which brought her worldwide stardom, winning five Grammy Awards.

Wow - that's really a shame. But as you said - not at all unexpected or shocking. Perhaps in death she can find the peace that she couldn't find in life.

RIP Amy

I read a letter online from one of her teachers at school - this was a while back, and the teacher was encouraging her. Apparently she was very very talented. But she could not shake her demons.

It is not surprising - but sad. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call to a few of her fans.:(

Sad, she was a talented person. It just goes to show you money does not solve a person's problems. May she rest in peace at last.

Well, that wasn't a surprise, now was it? She was headed there years ago. She was talented but couldn't get her act together when it came to drugs and drinking. Rest in peace, Amy.

But she did go to rehab, and obviously it wasn't successful. Just sad.

I think this news, although not a surprise, is so sad. 27 is too young to go. RIP Amy.

Not surprising but none the less sad. I hope maybe now some attention can be focused on her talent and not her personal problems. She's in a better place. RIP Amy.

RIP Amy Winehouse.:(

I never heard her sing but know she was a celebrated star in Europe.
She died at 27 yrs old, like Jim Morrison& ,Janis Joplin. I remember when
Joplin died. It made me very angry that she could be so selfish & so careless
with her life & talent.:(

You know, Liz, I bet you have heard Amy Winehouse, back a few years ago, you almost couldn't turn on the radio without hear her "I'n No Good," and then "Rehab." It is sad that she couldn't get a handle on her addictions, like others that have been mentioned.

She was very talented! We both loved her music! It was different, fresh, original!!
What a shame that she couldn't cope with her alcohol and drugs addiction.........

RIP Amy!!!

I was very shocked to hear on the radio that she had died after I came back from holiday. She lived about 5 minutes away from my university halls in a very pretty part of Camden - I must have walked past her house on many occasions without fully realising it.

Such a waste of talent - I was listening to and a fan of her music before she burst onto the scene with 'Rehab'. It is a shame, but she got a lot of her lyrical inspiration from her demons - seems to go hand in hand with exceptional talent. :( It's a sad loss for the music industry nonetheless.

Such a waste of talent. Such a shame that she couldn't get rid of her demons, here's hoping she's at peace finally.
