This tortoise is 20 years old and she's a bit of a celebrity, making visits to schools for education programs. Anyway, someone broke the window of the pet store (when it was closed) and removed the tortoise. Good news, she was found safe a couple of days later.
July 3, 2011 (LINCOLNWOOD, Ill.) (WLS) -- A 70-pound tortoise named Spur who was stolen from The Animal Store in Lincolnwood has been found.
Store owner Ken Bearman said Spur was discovered about 11 a.m. Sunday eating grass in the backyard of a Lincolnwood home after an anonymous tip.
Bearman said it took Spur a few hours to come out of her shell but she is eating well and only suffered a few minor scrapes on the top of her shell.
Spur was stolen at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when someone broke the glass on the front door, reached into the tortoise's pen and took her.
Spur has lived at The Animal Store for the past 20 years. Spur is well known in the community, often visiting schools and senior centers.
