WASHINGTON – U.S. Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was almost killed in a horrific shooting in January, has released her first post-recovery pictures.

The two pictures, showing the lawmaker with short brown hair and wearing eyeglasses and a burgundy jacket, appeared on Ms. Giffords’ Facebook page.

One photo shows a smiling Giffords alone. In the second, the Arizona congresswoman appears with her mother, Gloria Giffords.

Ms. Giffords has been undergoing rehabilitation to regain movement on the right side of her body after a bullet tore through the left side of her brain in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona, on January 8.

Six people were killed, including a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl, when a gunman opened fire at a political meeting Giffords was holding with constituents outside a grocery store.

She underwent a cranioplasty to replace the part of her skull removed to allow space for her brain to swell.

Last month, Ms. Giffords travelled to Cape Canaveral, Florida, to see off her husband, space shuttle commander Mark Kelly, as he piloted shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station on its last space mission.

Wow! Pretty good! She has a bit of a right facial weakness- her smile isn't quite even. And her hair is quite short, of course. I wonder how her speech and function are progressing. I hope she is doing well!

YAY! She still has a lot of work to do - but as indicated in the article, hopefully being at home will really help her recovery. :)

She's awesome. Of course, having 24 hr medical care @home and going to out patient rehab is a huge plus. Gabby's gorgeous, inside and out. A true inspiration!
