At last report, 1/3 of Slave Lake had been totally destroyed by fire. Forest fires, initially driven by winds of 60mph/100kph, hit the town several days ago. Over 100 firefighters and equipment from Calgary and also Edmonton went up yesterday in a huge convoy.

No one hurt- there is a place for 50 - 60 dogs and cats and people to look after them. The photo gallery here is worth a look.

All of our people who work/live in the Slave Lake area are fine, safe and we don't know yet if they've lost their homes to the fire. Our oil/gas production is shut down in the area causing big production losses.

I've been looking at the photos and am horrified and saddened for the people who had such a short time to grab their things and run for their very lives.

oh no - how awful. Living in Texas and just experiencing many fires - so tragic....keeping the area in my prayers.
