View Full Version : Sharing some pics I took yesterday

Got a little lost in the forest yesterday when I was out taking pics, but it's been worth it as I entered a mystical, almost tolkienesque world... ;) Those who are on FB may have already seen them. The first one is my favourite.

Okay, these are a little bit different from the others, not so green, but I share them anyway...

Enter, if you dare,
Into the verdant wood
Beyond the fences, and on
The faint trail - the only sign
Of human presence
Through the greenwood
Breathe in the heady, heavy scent
Of spring well underway
Of new growth and soil
Listen for the song of unseen birds
Well hidden in the leafy glade
Be still for a moment
Civilization and stress forgotten
Close your eyes and breathe deep
Of the spirits of the forest
Ancestors and ghost of travelers long past
And feel your pulse slow
Listen to the birdsong and hum of insects
And just breathe

Karen, you did it again!! Such a beautiful poem; it describes that moment and that place perfectly, just as if you've been there with me! Wow

Pat, thanks a lot! :)

That's how evocative your photos are! I'd say we should meet in the middle and do a gallery show some day, but that would likely put us somewhere mid-Atlantic ocean ... not many visitors out there!

You amazed me again with your pictures Kirsten. You have to keep trying to get some art magazines to publish those.
The second picture was my favourite, I sat and stared at it with such a feeling of being there, just so peaceful and tranquil.

Karen the poem you wrote to go along with the second picture was also amazing, very well written, made one feel the reality of the picture. Maybe we could have a talent section on the forum.

Nothing says
Spring is undeniably here
Quite like the sight of
A tightly curled fiddlehead frond
Fuzzy and green, delicate and
Slightly mysterious
Showing little hint of
The ferny glory it will unfurl
Smelling of damp and greenness
Like a secret closely kept
Waiting
Just waiting
To burst forth

GORGEOUS pictures! I am at shame. I have not been doing a lot of photography lately.. but when I visit California, that will change. :)

This picture, makes me feel like I want to go and explore:

I love the idea of the fences being a divide between everyday life and otherworld. The German word for witch - Hexe- means etymologically she who sits on the fence...

There is something about
A half-open gate
That begs exploration
Down the wide grassy lane
With trees shading the way
Cooling the path and hiding
The mysteries beyond
In light dappled shadows
Tread softly and listen
For who or what created this place
Richly carpeted with life
Deep enough to silence your footsteps
The quiet power of photosynthesis
Unchanged in eons
And uninterrupted, beyond this gate
By the works of man

Saw it, made me very happy! :)

Yes, the mid-Atlantic ocean area would probably be a bad choice, but maybe we could present our work on a website?

Love the two new poems you've posted! You really captured the emotions of my pictures and put them into beautiful words!
