I posted about her in the Prayer thread a while back - thanks for the prayers.

She had been diagnosed with very early Parkinson's, which didn't show any symptoms at all until she was 75. She hasn't felt like herself in two years.

Although she still has an 8 month wait to get into the Movement Disorders Clinic, she got back in touch with her neurologist (at the clinic's suggestion) as she didn't want to feel out of it for 8 months.

Yesterday she saw the neurologist and got a scrip for levodopa/cabridopa

I called her this morning as she was starting the med today, and it was amazing to hear the musicality back in her voice! Plus, on her way from the kitchen table to the phone she - like most of us - didn't even think about it. Normally, she would be thinking about every step and focusing on keeping her balance.

She said, "I'm baaack!" I said, "Run for your lives!" and we both laughed.

She is having some side effects - headache and nausea - but these should pass within two weeks.

It's a big load off my back, and a HUGE weight off her!

I am happy.:)

Doing a happy dance over here on reading this. She has been in my thoughts a lot lately. I am so glad she is feeling much better with these meds. Keep the good news coming.

My dad had Parkinson's for almost 20 years. The meds certainly helped him through some rough patches. He didn't shake much (started with his pinky finger), but had a balance problem and it affected his speech and swallowing towards the end. He did very well. He went to excercise classes too. I'm thrilled the meds helped your mom so quickly and she feels like herself again! Thankfully we live in the 21st century where meds and knowledge are so advanced! High 5 to your mom!

Thanks!

One interesting thing that the neurologist told her is that one is BORN with Parkinson's, and the symptoms can show up at any time. Mom is one of the lucky people since hers didn't start til she was 75 (she is 77 now), so its progression will be slow.

She is otherwise healthy and only on one other med, a low-dose HRT patch. She happily went to her regular Yoga class this morning...:D
