I was in the elevator this morning and on the TV there usually is a Word of The Day. Today's was:

ailurophile
(n.) a-ee-loor-oh-fahyel – a cat lover

The ailurophile dedicated her life to saving stray cats.

I never heard this word before so I found it very interesting..

hmmmmm.....I think I like cat lover better. Much easier to say.

That is interesting though. I've never heard that either, and what a great way to make your morning "commute" a little more interesting and educational. :)

When I see pictures of FISTER like this, I cannot imagine he was ever an outside wild boy...it looks like he is in cat-ecstasy!

You mean you were watching TV in the elevator? LOL .(Sorry , we are not used to)

Anyway,very interesting word .
I did some research :

Ailurophilia

The love of cats. Derived from the ancient Greek word ailurus meaning tail-wavers.

The fear of cats is Ailurophobia.

Any Ailuphobiant (sp) out there??
:D

Yes, Koxka, they now have TV's in elevators. ;) I know here in Chicago they have them in most of the taller building elevators. I think it's to give people something to look at when they're in there, because you know you can't look at each other - heaven forbid! ;) :D

Sometimes there are just too many steps.

The fear of cats is Ailurophobia.

My friend is an Ailurophobic. It's the funniest thing. I have to lock up the cats when she comes over. She screams if they get anywhere near her. I forgot to lock them up once and I walked into a different room and heard screaming like she was being killed or something. So I ran to find her and there was a cat rolling around next to her feet she had the most terrified look on her face. I couldn't help but laugh.

My aunt has Ailurophobia!!! She is sooooooooooooooooooooo scared of cats (and dogs). Whenever she sees a cat, she stops whatever she was doing and RUNS! LOL! The cat on the other hand, stares in shock, as if to say, "WHAT DID I DO?????" Poor confused kitties! LOL!

One of our colleagues was afraid of cats. She had spent one night with another friend whose cat spat at her and growled (I wonder why). Another colleague who has 4 cats decided that Christiane (the first one) has to be healed from her ailurophobia. She took her home and introduced her to her cats who are very nice. With her help Christiane even dared to leave her door open at night and only one of the cats (named Mona, Lisa, Robbie and Mimau) came along to say friendly Good Night. She was very proud of that the other morning in the office. However it looks as if it was a lighter case of ailurophobia.

My friend is an Ailurophobe--- she is terrified of cats, and wouldn't come over my house for a long time. she has recently started coming over and is starting to get used to my cats-- thanks to Baby who is way too cute to be afraid of..

anyway, to answer the elevator question--- I am barely awake enough in the morning to walk up 22 flights of stairs.. I would probably be dead by the time I got up here...:(
