I would kill for a house like that. It's so cozy looking! I've always wanted a cabin-like house, with lots of windows, cozy, mountain views, etc. JUST like that. Where is it this year?

That's only 1.2 million? Wow, that would be a lot more in my area. It is beautiful!! Does it come furnished too?
Good luck, I hope you guys win! :)

I've found houses of similar structure to that for 1/2 the price in states like CO, WY, and Washington State. But this house is gorgeous too! I've been to Vermont before, it's absolutely beautiful. I just tried to enter but I'm not 21, I'm gonna make my mom enter. :p

Be careful what you wish for. You do know, that the winner must pay taxes- right???:p

The 2006 Dream Home was built in the mountains overlooking Lake Lure, NC - it remains empty (or still was in late summer of 2009). First of all - winner couldn't pay taxes so it is said, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. There is a total restriction of any further construction in that area, and therefore there is no water or electricity to this house, and it would be extremely expensive to bring it in for just one dwelling (if it would even be allowed). You can see just the top of this place in the trees, with nothing else around as far as the eye can see! Such a waste of a home when so many people are in need. I don't know the story of how HGTV actually got permits to build there in the first place, unless the restrictions on further construction were put in place after it was done.

I never would have known anything about all of this, but we took a sightseeing boat tour of Lake Lure when I was there in 2009. The tour guide told many interesting stories of the lake and happenings there. He even pulled in a cove where the beach/water scenes from the movie "Dirty Dancing" were shot. The stairs going up the hill were still there, but all the cabins you saw in the movie were lost to a fire some years back.

I think that's precisely why there's now a large cash amount as well as the house - for the taxes!

But you still have to pay taxes on it EVERY YEAR. Then what? All but one or two winners have sold or are trying to sell their "Dream Home", and some of these folks have good jobs/occupations. Nothing would have helped in the NC house tho, with the restriction on further construction that was imposed. :(

we are aware of taxes lol we thought about taking the in lue of award if we do win which is the 500,000 plus the car and an additional 650,000 or we thought about seeing a tax specialist lol, so we have thought of things to do so if we do win we will be all set lol

Got to love your optimism. :) Someone has to be chosen a winner, so you probably stand just as much chance as the next guy. :p Good luck!!!!! :D

It is just beautiful and I sure hope that you win. Isn't it a shame that
once you win something - you have to pay taxes on it. And if you "win"
enough money for the taxes - you have to pay taxes on the money first.........

plans changed :( we stayed faithfull to entering lol, but have decided that IF we do win we will take the in lue of prize, which is the 2011 gmc acadia denali, $500,000 and another $650,000

firstly pay the taxes on the money of course, then pay off our current home, then buy ANOTHER home payed in full someone in the mountains like in new hampshire where there is no property tax ? haha so far ive found some nice homes in new hampshire with acres and acres or property included, (mostly equestrian estates. which happens to be my favorite lol. crossing my fingers :D

I would have to also take the in lieu of prize... the house is beautiful but that dorm ski room would never work for my family and friends. :)

Happy entering!

That house is beautiful but you would have to love snow a lot to live there.
Stowe is about an hour away from me and it is in the middle of the mountains where there has been 3 feet of snow on the ground for the past two months.
One nice thing about the location is that it is very close to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory.:)

As a native of RI - I'll take the ocean over the mountains. Now build the next dream home on the oceanfront, and I'll be trying to win! :D

Florida - heck no - I hate FL. Nice place to visit, but definitely would not want to live there! Give me the ocean front from Maine to SC - that's as far south as I like. :p I prefer the Outer Banks in NC - that's my favorite.

I get the feeling you really are planning on winning that house if you're making plans to pay the taxes. Remember, lots of other people out there are thinking they too will be the winners so try not to get too far with that dream or you'll be hit hard if you don't win it. Have to agree it's a lovely house and if I was still skiing, riding and hiking I would be craving it myself. I've never won anything except a few bucks with lucky tickets so I don't think the house would be coming my way. A bit expensive to upkeep I think, best I stay put for now :D

I don't think I'll be getting much sleep tonight. I'll still be laughing too much at the thought of you losing your tent. If you aren't a stand up comedian you missed your calling Wom :D
