My office is in a complex just outside the city of Trenton. It's fairly large and the building we're in has a fairly large courtyard with several trees and bushes that attracts a variety of animals. For the past few weeks a beautiful hawk has been observed flying around and sitting in a tree.
A few of us were standing outside during lunch when the hawk soared in and knocked the top off of a squirrels nest. Two squirrels took off while the hawk poked his head into the nest. Finding the nest empty, the hawk went after a squirrel on a tree limb. The poor squirrel jumped a few feet onto the side of the building and scampered up to the roof. At this, the hawk flew around the courtyard and zeroed in on the second squirrel that was still on the tree (he just barely got away).
We animal lovers were in awe of the encounter but one in the group tried to get the hawk away by putting a piece of raw chicken on the ground under the tree. She couldn't understand why the hawk wouldn't go for the chicken even though we tried to explain he was following his instincts as were the squirrels.
What we saw was wild animals doing what they do naturally. A beautiful and awesome sight,

Wow, what a sight that must have been!

A piece of raw chicken would not attract a hawk - it doesn't move like prey, smell like prey, it's not warm like prey ...

That's exactly what we tried to explain to the other worker. The rest of us didn't want the squirrels to get hurt but we understand that we are NOT to interfere or intervene in any way during something like this.

Yes it is all part of natures plan. Savage and yet beautiful.
