This winter we are close to setting new records for the more snow in a winter season. All this snow is creating problems: where do you PUT it? For those who don’t live with lots of snow, and for those who just want to browse, here are some pics showing the issues we are coping with.
The snow along the edge of my driveway is rather high. I’ve got the driveway clear, and I must say the City of East Providence has done a great job so far, even my street is down to the bare asphalt. This early in the season, having so much snow, I’ve had to make sure I clear all the way back; we have more snow coming, and I need place to put it!

That is Marlin’s back, walking down the driveway. The snow is already higher than him!

Front of my house from the street. Look how high the snow is compared to the steps at my front door!

You can just see the tip of the yellow fire hydrant at the corner of my yard.

From the street side, you can see the fire fighters have been by and shoveled it out. I feel for them: they have to clear snow at their own homes, at the station, then they have a list of shut ins they help, and then they have to go around the city doing all the hydrants. I often do most of mine for them, using my snow thrower. This storm, we have SO much snow now and the street plow just packs it so it is heavy and I couldn’t do a thing to assist.

Snow bank at the nearest intersection to my house. Driving is hazardous because sightlines are blocked at intersections. By the time you have pulled forward far enough to see if anyone is coming, the nose of your car is already IN the intersection!

If there is a sidewalk in front of your house, you are responsible for clearing the snow from that as well. I don’t have a sidewalk, this is another street.

You have 12 hours after the snow stops falling to clear the sidewalk. After that, fines kick in, in my city it is $20 per day. In the recent past, cities and towns have not really enforced it. This year, they are not only enforcing it, but some places are increasing their fines. A woman was walking with her 4 children from her car to her home. They had to walk in the street, as a resident had not plowed the sidewalk. Two of the chilfren were struck by a car – one has a broken leg, the other has bruises. This happen in my city, about a mile from where I live.
When you clear your driveway, the sides tend to have piles. But at the corners of your driveway you have enormous mounds, because you are clearing what the street plow pushed across. This is at the corner of our friend Marshmellow’s driveway. From left, Tasha, Willy and Lacey.

Sorry for all the “rear ends,” lol, I had to put down treats to get them to stay PUT.

As you can imagine, backing OUT of that driveway is not fun. Marshmellow’s Dad has been backing IN, which is easier, so he can pull out frontwards.
From left, Tasha, Willy, Marlin and Sugar. Lacey decided to move on down the street – with OUT me!
Stand by, I have more photos for you!
