Please vote for the great animal (and primate :) ) rescues on this page. ARF of MS is one of the best rescues in the South and is really close to winning (top 10 finishers in that category will win 50K). They need this so badly and what a great December it will be if they win.

I am new here and my friend who has been posting about the pepsi project asked me to come here and talk about ARF of MS and why we need the grant so badly.

we are in the largest county in mississippi with the highest number of animal control pick ups. within 5 days of animal control pick up the animals are pts. 98 percent of what is picked up is dead on friday morning at 10:30 each week. they put down over 30,000 each of dogs and cats many of whom are someones pet who has somehow ended up on the wrong side of the law.

besides the pets there is an abundance of stray animals in our state. a majority of people don't care about stray animals and they look the other way when they see the stray walking down the road, head hanging, cold, dirty, scared, hungry. We stop. we rescue, we rehabilitate, we give medical care, we find homes. currently we have over 300 dogs and 100 cats in our care. it costs us over 250,000 a year to operate. 95% of our donations goes directly to animal care and housing. no board member is paid a salary. please, take 30 seconds to vote on the pepsi challange for our project. it is totally a popularity contest. he who has the most votes wins. we are up against some strong projects with larger audience than we, this is so important, your votes cost you nothing, but your gift of 30 seconds can change lives

Thanks Pippa! I love ARF and they have become my charity of choice for the year. As you know, my dog is a rescue from Alabama so I have a special place in my heart for Southern doggies.

VOTED!
(standing on my chair and shouting) ARF of Mississippi is currently at #7 - let's keep them securely in the top ten, people!

I also voted for this project because of Twisterdog's story about nine dogs rescued from a puppy mill...

Just voted by text! That was easy! I don't understand how anyone can mistreat any animal or not stop to help one in distress. I was just reading somewhere on the internet the other day where Mississippi is one of the 5 stated where little is done for animal abusers. I know it was in Mississippi where I found that little kitten I called "Lil River" on the river bank while waiting for my boat to come. Someone had dumped that probably 6 week old kitten there, out in the middle of now where on the river bank. I had to get on the boat, leaving that baby on the bank, it broke my heart and I cried.

Peoples attitude towards these babies just stun me, the cruelty some suffer and yet continue to love is astounding. Kids that think whacking a loving, trusting dog in the head with a baseball bat like those boys did to Johnny Walker, is all for "fun".. Those attitudes are learned at home.

Having helped at a kill shelter and helping with a rescue now, it amazes me the reasons people give for dumping their fur kids after teaching them to trust them.. People HAVE to learn pets are NOT disposable and getting one is a life long commitment!

And by golly! If you don't want the kittens and puppies your animals keeps having S/N them!!
