Over the weekend, Scruffy began to falter. He had trouble getting off the ground with his only back leg. His vision was nearly gone. His bark became a squack. By Monday, he couldn't stand long enough to pee. Efforts to help him with a sling were frustrating both to him and to me. We helped him to the Bridge at 11AM Monday morning.
Scruffy lived a good life for 17 1/2 years. Even with cataracts, poor hearing and the loss of his back leg, he was a happy, funny dog. He was very accepting of all of the cats and new dogs that became his housemates, never growling at any of them. He will be missed.

I'm so sorry you have lost Scruffy. :( He looked like a very sweet boy and must have been a joy to have around. :) As you say, he has had a good and long life and I hope that is a comfort to you.
After a little rest, he will be romping around on the RB with his newfound friends.
Rest in peace, Scruffy - you will be missed, but never forgotten. :love:

Aw, dear Scruffy, growing old isn't for the faint hearted, is it boy? So now you are at Rainbow Bridge, and feeling much better, the way you did a few years back. Do try and look in on your humans, let them know you are doing well.
I am sorry for your loss. All those years, so many memories, so much fun. I hope the good times will see you through this time of sorrow. The hole in your heart will ease with time, and you will never forget Scruffy.

Rest in peace, old man. I am sure there is a warm spot near the fire waiting for you up at the Rainbow Bridge. Have a good nap, and all your pain will be forever gone.

:( I am sorry to hear of your loss of Scruffy.. RIP wittle baby & play hard at the bridge.. Your so Adorable..
Gosh Mary, 17 1/2 years with you is a long time. He must have been extremely happy.
I am so sorry for your loss, but I know that you didn't want him to suffer any longer and he is grateful to you for that.
It takes a while - but the harsh grief does subside and the happy times
together take over as all fond memories.
Hugs to you Mary:love::love:

What a long and happy life! Growing old stinks. Thank you for making Scruffy's days comfortable until he left for the Bridge. He's a puppy again, romping and rolling. Play well, old friend. You did good.
