Hi Kelly, I have a new cat book that my Dad got for me when he was in Texas. In the section about breeds there's a picture of a Korat cat that looks very similar to Basil. Here's the picture. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid37/pebef2038269ccbfbea36cd13eee94326/fd1d52b1.jpg

Here's a picture of Basil. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid36/pa4bad5b257d06f49c7905e71e8c400a4/fd25abad.jpg

The book says that Korats originated in Thailand and it's one of the oldest natural breeds. It's also considered to be a bringer of luck. The Korat is one of the four major blue breeds and is somewhat rare. The body is cobby; fur is short and plush, with silver-tipped blue hair. Korats are mild-mannered, intelligent, and affectionate and not terribly vocal.
Kelly, I know you have said that Basil is very needy and somewhat vocal but he may out grow this as he matures. I bet that one of his parents was a Korat. :)

Definetly a dead ringer. Basil is getting big. He's so cute! If only I could figure out what breed(s) Bixby descended from....Gigi..I know she is part Himi...and Scout is a brown tabby short hair.

Chinadoll, did you see the cat of the day yesterday named Mitchell? He is a black and white Maine Coon cat and he reminded me of Bixby.:)

Noah's Mommy, I think it is so cool the way that Basil keeps changing! Who would have thought that when you started out with a little black kitten and now you have an exotic silver beauty!

I agree totally! It's fascinating to see the changes in Basil, and I would say, yep, dead ringer for a Korat if I've ever seen one. Not only the shape of his face, but his fur too. :)

How fun! I think its really neat he's part Korat...it said that when they are two years old, their eyes turn green. I guess that's when we'll know for sure huh?

Cataholic, come on over! :) Basil LOVES to be loved. :D

Vermontcat, it IS wierd that we started off with this chocolate/black kitten and to see him now is amazing. I was looking at all of his really young pictures and he looks so different, like a completely different cat.

Vermontcat: I just looked at the COTD that you said looked like Bixby. I would have never thought that Bix would have similarities with a Maine Coon. The eyes look so much alike. Bix had blue/green eyes as a tiny kitten, but now his eyes are the same yellow color as Mitchell the COTD on 10/27. Of course many cats have that same yellow color eye, but that combined with the black/white longish hair makes for a striking resemblance. Thanks for pointing that out.
