STOP! Turtle Crossing the Road

Today on the way home from the grocery run a turtle was sitting on the road where my right front tire would of done it in. I slammed on the brakes knowing no one was behind me, backed up, got the car on the shoulder opened the car door & grabbed the turtle. A big old cement truck came barrelilng around the corner & moved over the center line, there was no on coming traffic & the guy waved. I took the turtle across the road & believe me it was on a mission as soon as I put it down it headed down the bank into the woods. The turtle lives to see another day. :) The turtle must of thought the warm pavement on the road was a good place to stop & warm up. It was a painted turtle approximately 7 inches long (length of shell).

Oh, goodness, thanks for saving that turtle! I think all ours have spent the majority of July IN the water to stay cool!

When I used to drive, I always stopped when I saw a turtle trying to cross the road. I would then carry them to the side of the road they were heading for. Yea, I'm nuts but the turtles were happy and alive. :D :love:
