On Monday, I visited the zoo of Hanover again; IMO, on of the most beautiful zoos in Germany with large enclosures for most of the animals, many of them resemble their natural environments. This time, I was really excited to go there because two elephant babies (a girl and a boy) were born in May, and three more babies will arrive during the year. The zoo got a new Australian Outback section, and the new Canadian theme world Yukon Bay has recently opened. You should really check the zoo's website (http://www.zoo-hannover.de/home.html?L=1), it's beautiful.

However, it was a dark, rainy and cold day, so we were cold and wet all the time. Luckily, most of my pictures don't show it.

As always, your pics are just magnificent. I don't think that you could take a bad picture even if you tried. :) It looks like you were right up "close and personal" in so many of the shots.

Loved the polar bears - they are such stately creatures, and it's sad to think they are in danger of extinction if the environment continues the way it is going.

And of course, my cute little favorites - the meerkats.

Thanks so much for sharing "your" zoo with us.

Thanks! :) But believe me, I'm taking many bad pics, it's just that I don't post them! ;)

Yes, so sad re. the polar bears. I fear the day will come when the only place left for them are the zoos. And they live under horrible conditions in many zoos! :(

Meerkats are nice, I love them, too! And the three babies were so cute!

Ahhhhhhh...............
I love them all, well except for gorilla looks too human for me. But the lion, and tiger, and polar bear, and all the rest, such lovely lovely creatures, God bless them all.
Your pictures are so good. I posted a few from the Columbus Zoo and now I am so embarrassed looking at yours, they blow mine away. But I did have fun at the zoo and can see you did as well.
Nice to see that you are up and about and able to enjoy yourself and life.

the baby elephants are so cute! i'm jealous, we don't have elephants at my zoo - they took the elephants out of the Detroit Zoo cause it's too cold for them

Thanks! :) Glad you like them!

Well, actually I think this is really considerate. Sometimes I wonder about that, too as it can be very cold here as well. At least they don't let the newborns go outside when it's too cold.

Very cute! I love them all :) Of course the baby elephant is extra cute

I am impressed by the size of the polar bears enclosure. It's not like in the wild, but at least it does not look like a small jail.

This Park makes me think about the Burger's Zoo located inside the Hoge Veluwe Natural Park in Arnhem (NL) near the German border. There are also areas with different themes and landscapes there. Something not to miss if you visit this area.

Sonia, my sister and her hubby visited that zoo in Arnheim a couple of weeks ago; she said it was beautiful!! Hope I'll have the chance to see it one day!

Yes, I was very pleased when I saw the size of the polarbear enclosure. What you see in the picture is not even the entire enclosure, it's at least twice as big. Nothing compared to the terrible cages they used to have in earlier times.

Hi Kirsten,
Once again your pictures are fantastic! I loved each of them, especially the baby elephant after his dust bath and the tiger licking his chops. It must have been exciting seeing a polar bear live and in person.

It looks like a wonderful zoo, so clean and plenty of room for the animals to move around and explore. And the animals look as if they're very well cared for. Thank you so very much for sharing, what a treat!
