Hi Everyone,
Lillycat has a tabby named Cindy. Cindy is about 5 years old and came to her with an old injury in her legs/hips. Over the last year, it has gotten progressively worse, and shows in a reduced mobility, increased weight, and some snarlyness on Cindy's part. She is probably in pain. With all Lillycat has endured this past year (the very sad loss of both Nevvie and Washy), Cindy's condition was put on the back burner, so to speak. Well, it is now in the front.

Tomorrow, Cindy goes in for orthopedic surgery for her hip/knees, not exactly sure where, to hopefully correct and relieve the condition. This is prolly the first of 2 surgeries for Cindy. :( The recouperation period is about 6 weeks. That is a very long time to confine a kitty, as we all know.

Can everyone keep Cindy and Lillycat in their thoughts and prayers? This is surely to be a stressful time for both.

TIA.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and my apologies for a delay in reporting!

Cindy has: Luxating patella (or trick knee, subluxation of patella, or floating patella), is a condition in which the patella, or kneecap, dislocates or moves out of its normal location. The surgery was to repair it. She looks like she has had an ACL repair, all shorn on her rear leg, with little stitches. Mom has been keeping a tight watch on her, has dismantled her bedroom in which Cindy is confined, and sleeping on the wooden floor! Cindy cannot jump up- even onto a mattress. Poor mom, poor Cindy!

It maybe the pain medication, but, Cindy seems like a different cat completely. Very affectionate, despite her current condition. She was a bit snippish pre-surgery. But, it could just be the meds! Anyhow, it doesn't seem as if she will need her other knee done as the doctor was able to manipulate it back into place, and with this other knee being 'good', it might be avoide.

Here's hoping! And, here's hoping for a great recovery.

You Mom needs to have the White Coat SHOW / Demonstrate the proper
method of "RE-setting" Cindy's trick knee so Mom can handle it herself.

SmokeMutt came with a "Luxating Patella" - courtesy of his first owner
and a probable KICK  to the knee. :(
Smokey had three ways of dealing with it when it went "out" ...

1) Let out a *YIPP*, stop, then *SHAKE* the leg out straight to pop it back "in"

2) Just *tuck it up* and run on the good Three ... FixZit later :p

3) Do the *YIPP* and Find Dad! He'd *tuck it up* and hobble over to me
A) A *WHINE* to attract attention
B) He'd Assume the Position: Stand on three; extend the bum knee leg
C) I'd put my thumb on the displaced kneecap and give the Vet-approved *push*
D) (Grit my teeth) and feel the knee return to its proper position
E) Smokey would extend /retract the knee a couple times (Quality Check)
F) If he could spare the time, a quick **KISS** for Dad
G) Turn & *RACE* off on all Four ... good for another thousand steps.

About a year and a half afer his arrival, The Knee quit acting up - I think
the Knee gave up causing trouble because Smokey ignored it!

Smokey has gone almost 10 years on his "Bum Knee" without sir jury - and
only ONE vet visit a few years ago when the knee "acted up" for a few days.

Good Luck to Cindy!! ;)

OUCH! Not sure it is exactly the same way. This knee needed surgical intervention. I believe there are grades of these things. Cindy has implants, I believe to keep the patella in its place. BUT, as to the other knee, maybe the re-do by hooman might work!

I didn't know cats could have this condition too. I hope the surgery
clears up any pain Cindy had before. Cats seem to have such fragile little bones.:(

Sorry - I didn't mean to question the surgical need ...
The "magic thumb" tail was to consider for the "other" knee. ;)
