It's on layaway and I have til the end of September to pay for it.

I have visited an ink cartridge refill place a lot in the last month. While waiting, I would wander the mall and kept going back to this one cat statue. The pic below is the actual statue - but since it's kind of light in colour, it's hard to see the expression on the face, and the details. Face on, the eyes have that 'happy closed' look, as if the kitty had just finished the best dinner in the world.

It was on for half price....$187+. I put $20 on it. Hopefully my fortunes will improve by September - they have to.

It's not practical...but a piece of beauty I cherish that I am gifting to myself.

It's adorable! Layaway is a good thing, it'll make it not hurt so much to just put on a little at a time. You need to treat yourself sometimes! :)

Wow, does that ever look real! I had a cat statue that was so real looking that my cats hissed at constantly but when I got divorced, my ex sold it.

Just pay on it a little at a time. It'll give you something to look forward to, Candace. :)

Oooh thats adorable an looks real!

Actually, Karen - it's a Sandicast type of statue - HEAVY and solid! Not EASILY breakable like a hollow one would be.

Hence the price!

Very cool!

Try eBay, too, for things like that. I recently got a larger-than-life-sized Italian greyhound statue for $75 ... retail price $350. :D

Catty1

Actually, I wasn't looking for it - just saw it.

And I was Googling all over the place for a pic to post here...and there were NONE on eBay!

Mind you, there were a couple of statues of a Bengal that were just lovely, and well done!

Knowing you have something to look forward to will give you soemthing to work towards and focus on. Start a kitty fund and put loose change in it - its amazing how quickly these little jars fill up and you don't really miss the cash either

I love it.....and the "loose change" idea is a good one too!

It's awesome. How do you think your kitties will like it?

Catty1
03-12-2010, 11:13 AM
It's only about 8" tall, maybe 10". I have other statues and the cats just don't care. Mind you, this one is so natural...I'll place it on the floor and see what they think!

In September, that is.;)

KAK found this same statue online for a GREAT deal! Looks like they only ship to the USA.

http://www.onlinediscountmart.com/99-ca05359.html

I've also started a payment on mine up here in CA, so don't really wanna back out...it's one I fell in love with after gazing at it for weeks. ;)

Would make a great gift for someone special!:)

THANK YOU, KAK, for thinking of me when you saw this. :)

Holy mackerel - that's quite a difference in price!!!! YIKES!!!

If I were you, I would try to get back what was paid on the layaway and have someone in the States buy one and ship it too you. Then you could treat yourself to something else with the money you saved.......;)

Candace, you're very welcome.:) I thought the price was great too. They have many other wonderful cat items there as well.:)

Thing is...the statue I am paying on I have actually seen and held.

I am sure the online one is fine...or is it?

This particular statue is discontinued, so maybe that is why the deal is so good. But still...

I know I likely should get the cheaper one. I'll think about it...maybe paying someone here thru PayPal to order this one and pay the shipping...then just send it good old US Post, nothing fancy.

Then - if it IS the same one and in perfect shape, I will cancel the layaway here.

Any volunteers?

Thanks!

Candace

You could have it shipped here, and I could forward it to you ... if that would work! I know postage in Canada is more expensive than here, so you could figure that out, too ... (just go to usps.com if you know the weight, etc. of the package and it'll tell you to the penny!)

Update - the statue arrived at the Mayor's place today, and she shipped it to me via USPS. $37 plus $7.95 for shipping, and another $13.84 to get it to me.

Still WAY below $180 (that's 50% off).

I don't know what to tell the nice layaway lady...

Thanks to KAK and Karen and all you who encouraged me here! :)

You're very welcome.:) Even though I wasn't looking for this cat statue, I'm glad that I remembered it well enough to think of you and give you the info. when I saw it. Hopefully you'll be able to get whatever money you've been paying towards the other one. If not I hope that you haven't given the lady too much money yet. You could just tell her that you've changed your mind and don't want it any more or you could say that you found it some where else for a much better deal. Good luck.:)

I just tried looking for it and it seems to be gone. Maybe others saw the link here and more orders were placed so they ran out of inventory. Luckily Candace decided to order one before they ran out. You could try to e-mail the company and attach the picture that Candace posted in the first post of this thread to see what happened to it.

Gosh - it is possible I got the last one???

I went to that link and looked through all the cat stuff...and nothing. Though there WERE some cute statues - Biker Persian???

Well...there's one here up in Calgary...but not for $37.00!

I'll check the manufacturer's label when it gets here and see if that yields some results.

Country Artists will cease operation in December 2010.

The U.S. distributor is Enesco - here is their Country Artists page:

http://www.enescousa.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=130&Itemid=100

Here is the same cat, but it is a TUXEDO grooming a paw:
http://www.enescousa.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-enesco.tpl&product_id=5550&category_id=130&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=100

Black Cat Sitting looks great too!

Not sure what this means, but I went to the Country Artists' link on the box:

http://www.countryartists.co.uk/

Dear Country Artists Guild Member:

We regret to announce that the Country Artists Collectors' Guild will cease operating on 31st December 2010. This is due to the decreasing number of members of the Guild, and the lack of support for the special member-only figurines.

This means that if your membership is due for renewal in 2010 we will not be able to renew your membership, but we will continue to send out the regular mailings in 2010 including Country Letters. If you have already renewed your membership for 2010 we will be contacting you in due course, or if you renewed for two years in 2009, we will be sending you your 2010 renewal gift, Cock Sparrow automatically.

I found the online catalogues for 2009; have put the kitten/cat pages into thumbnails; just above the catalogue page in small print are the other cat categories. There are some stunning statues:
