Yodie sat on my lap this morning. First. time. ever. She was watching TV (she's so cute) and she suddenly came over to the sofa where I was sitting, hopped up on my lap and let me give her some ear scritchies. And she stayed. And stayed. At least half an hour passed and she'd still be on my lap if I hadn't needed to get some things done. Yodie is not a lap cat. It took at least 3 years before she would even let me pet her. And after her recent 2 month stint w/an E collar, I thought she'd never forgive me but apparently she has. I wish I could've gotten a pic of her sitting on my lap. I'm just floored! :D

Aww, isn't that awesome?!?! I'm so happy for you and Yodie. Maybe she's thanking you for taking such good care of her, even if she didn't like it while it was happening. :)

Oh how wonderful! Makes your heart glow, doesn't it? Good job! -- you are doing something right, she feels save with you. I know with some it takes YEARS but hey, she got there!

Aww, that must have been a great feeling. You can expect more lap time now, I guess. :)

Fister never was a lap cat, but he will come and lay next to me in bed.

That is exactly how I felt the first time Emma decided to snuggle with me.
Instantly I forgave her for breaking two lamps, removing the lining under my bed that protects the box springs, clawing the living room furniture to shreds.

I don't know what it is, but one day they just decide that you are O.K.!
And they give you the loving to prove it.

Congratulations - we all knew you were a great Mom anyway!

Awwww! Isn't that just the best feeling? You must have been channeling that old Sally Fields moment "She DOES love me! She really really loves me!" ;)

It's such a great feeling when it happens. We have had ones that hold a grudge, right now Egypt is mad at me for ear drops, going on 2 weeks. My boy Lucky has always got too be near for the last 1 ½ years, but in the last week has started to snuggle when I watch TV. Boo Boo and Olivia are now snuggles after several months.
So when it does happen I know the feeling you just want to jump for joy, but if you did it would probably scare the living day lights out of them.
SO ENJOY and HOPE FOR MORE

Nothing makes your day like kitty love! Ming is not a lap cat, but sometimes he will deign to jump on my lap for pets. Let's see...three times in six years to be exact. I hope Yodie keeps this up, she is such a sweetie.

That is so wonderful. And I totally agree with the other post about her thanking you for caring for her. She knows that you have helped her. I have seen this in the past with two different cats.

And now I have had Mama cat for over 3 years. A couple weekends ago on a Sunday when I was watching TV with a friend Mama came into the room, jumped up into my lap and just gave me all kinds of loving. I was tickled. She never really purred either until after I had her for some time. Now she purrs big time.

Awwwww...... I know exactly how you're feeling. I have Abby who'd chew her leg off to get away from a human. She jumped on the bed not once, but twice yesterday for a couple scritchies. I thought she was mad at me for picking at her chin acne (which is making her chinnie chin chin bald :()

I wish she'd stay for half an hour life Yodie.

Wow - congratulations. Somehow I figured that all your kids were lap cats. Hopefully she'll continue to grace your lap with her presence, now that she gave it a try. :D

My son's twin girls are 6 or 7 years old, and only in the past 6 months or so, has one of them tolerated me petting her. She won't get on my lap, but I can sit down next to her, and she's okay that way. The other one - pffftttt!!! She's such a brat that I think she doesn't even like herself. I can get a couple of head pats in, then she starts with the tail swish, the low growl, and then off she goes. She loves my DIL and no one else.

You'd think she might warm up to me, since I'm the one that feeds them most of the time, since they eat before anyone else gets home from work. Nope - no thanks from her at all! :p

What good news, Mary!

That sounds like my Bob, who until recently had never approached me voluntarily.. but not long ago started coming over to me to pick him up and put him on my lap..

And Poppy, who had always been of the "Admire me but don't touch" school, in the last few months has been jumping on my lap while I'm here at the computer or on my belly when I'm lying down.

They both welcome petting, the more the better, now too!

Isn't it fantastic when they start being little love-bugs?.. especially the ones who seemed like they'd always be stand-offish.

Well done, Yodie!
