Love the photos! I love tufted titmice, way too cute. I see them all around here. Blue jays and cardinals actually getting along? That's odd, ours fight for the bird feeder. Woodpeckers are so cute, I love seeing them. We don't see them too often though.

I don't know that they get along...it was really rare to see not only the jay and the cardinal so close to each other, but to get 3 jays in one shot! I think all the snow covering up their natural food sources made them too hungry to care who they were next to!
The titmouse is hard to capture...they are very fidgety and shy.

WOW awesome. wish some Jays would come around for our seed. but I am enjoying watching the female and male cardinals interact. Or rather the male cardinals try to attract her attention which she is IGNORING lol.

What kind of seed do you use?

The cardinals and jays usually liked the black oil sunflower seed or corn over regular seed. I think our harsh weather and tons of snow this year has made the birdies hungrier than usual and therfore our feeders are way busier than usual. I created a sort of "natural" looking area at the corner of our driveway with some branches so my pictures would look more natural than the birds just on the driveway.

All the Joisey boids said to tell you "Thanks for the seed!!" It's good of you to help care for them this winter!

Do you get chickadees and finches coming around? I don't see them here in FL - I don't believe they migrate and they are not here all year round like the jays and cardinals. I miss the chickadees - they use to come to my feeder when I lived in Staten Island. They made such a great sound!

BTW, both the jays and the cardinals will appreciate a few peanuts as well. I used to put out a peanut suet tray for them when I lived up north. Can't do it down here; they don't need the fats for one and it melts all over the place!! Well, usually - it's been cold here !!!!

Cathy, Yes, we do indeed get chickadees and finch.
The chickadees are hard to photograph from a distance even though I have a 12x optical zoom...it just isn't enough...they haven't been around as much this year as they have in the past.
I have a few pics of finch that I just caught a week or so ago!

I can't find the Gold Finch picture:confused:
We're almost out of bird seed and can only afford it if it's on sale.

Oh gosh they're the cutest little birdies! Thanks so much for sharing those amazing photos! You did a wonderful job on the photos, they're lovely. I love how puffed out all those little birds are, so, so adorable. I really wish I could feed the birds but my dogs are so prey driven, it would be a disaster for any birds that ventured to the ground to eat the fallen seeds and to squirrels who surely would try to sneak some seeds. Things would not end well for the unlucky animals that couldn't get away from my dogs :( My doggies are SO lovely and friendly, but not to critters that get too close.

Thank you, AdoreMyDogs!

I know how it can be with dogs and birds, or outside cats and birds.

I was walking out part-bird dog/part beagle one time, a bird flew from the ground, Nellie jumped up and snatched the bird right out of the air. Luckily, when I said "drop it", Nellie dropped it. I think the bird survived!

I'm out of bird seed now, so the birds are looking rather sad out there now.

Wow! Just Wow! - your pictures are amazing.

What do you feed the finches? I had a feeder and used the Nyjer seed, but it became so expensive to buy I had to stop. Aside from that I attracted so many finches that I had a huge mess of seed shells and finch poop everywhere.

What do you feed the finches? I had a feeder and used the Niger seed, but it became so expensive to buy I had to stop. Aside from that I attracted so many finches that I had a huge mess of seed shells and finch poop everywhere.

I believe it's called Woodland Wild Bird Seed....it's mostly the little yellow round seeds that looks like what you feed parakeets, but has some sunflower seeds in it. The 20 lb. bags have been available at $4.99 a bag, and I feed it kind of sparingly to make it last.
I have fed the Niger at times, but right now can't afford to.

Thank you for the compliments on the pictures!

Thanks, I will have to look into this. Nyjer seed is $47.99 for a 20 pound bag and even with free shipping that is a lot of money. They were plowing through 20 pounds in less than a month. It is even more expensive here in the stores.

Great photos! You have such pretty garden birds across the pond. I loved watching the birds in the nature reserves and the likes when I visited the USA a couple of years back.:D

I see both chickadees and finches around my yard. Though, I'm a bit north east of you so maybe that's why?

The pictures are lovely. I wish we would get blue jays and cardinals around here but the only birds coming around seem to be chickadees, finches, blackbirds, canaries, and most of all raven and crows.

Canaries, really?

Probably, I don't think I'm in their range. I'll look it up when I get home. Aren't they so little and round and cute!?! I love them!

Great pics. It's not all that often that you see Jays and Cardinals socializing. Guess it's a "food thing" that gets them together in this weather. :p
