After getting a computer virus a few weeks ago (the 1st time in the 4 years that I've had this computer), I don't think I would trust anything like this. So my answer is a big NO!

I have found that is very safe. I have never 'caught' anything from them. I have from a few other sites, I have some software that lets me trace those things. I just wanted to know what other people do with their spare time - that is if there is any because being on PT can take up most of it:)

I used BOINC at one time, but I only did a little more than nothing with SETI@Home. On a slightly related note, I used Folding@Home far more, and I'm on the Ubuntu F@H team.

In other news, I very highly doubt you could catch anything from a distributed computing program, unless the upstream computers are infected, but that is also extremely unlikely, as (I think) they all run Linux or some form of Unix.
