WOOHOO This is the first significant snowfall here in two winters at least.

Apparently the HEAVY snow starts around noon but we already have 6 inches or more :D It's AWESOME. not sure how much we are going to get. predictions are all over the place

But later we are going to bundle Hannah up in her snow suit and take her out to play in it :D I just looked at the weather map and the heavy heavy snowfall is about to start.

The dogs are all wound up and excited but they don't want to stay out too long :rofl1: They go out and get the zoomies and then come right back in and sneak off to our bed to snuggle up. silly pooches.

I LOVE it.

6 inches already???? You suck!!!!

I keep checking the radar, and we've got blue all over us, but there still isn't one flake on the ground or in the air in Allentown!!!! I want snow so badly, I can't wait for this to start!

I also have all my stuff ready to make home made biscotti while the snow is going on. It's what I'm giving my friends at school for Christmas. It will keep me busy while it's snowing and keep the house nice, warm and smelling yummy!!

OK ladies - you want snow??? Come on down. We've got about a foot and the heaviest is still yet to come. And the forecasters are all over the board with final estimates - depending on which station you're listening to - it could be anywhere between 18"-24". It's still the biggest storm since the President's Day Blizzard in 2003 when we ended up with 30".

Sure is pretty - as long as I don't have to get out and drive in it!!! It's drifting like crazy...........

Yeah, I went to work, only to find out they closed due to snow!

Driving right now is officially AWFUL. We still have no kitchen.... so thankfully we have several restaurants within a 2 block radius. We have two itallian places, a diner, McDonald's, Wendy's, a bistro, a deli, a bar, a high-priced ooh-la-la place..... we shouldn't go hungry - SOMEBODY should be open all day! :D :p

Its too pretty out there though. I'm BUMMED because Cameron is with his daddy today. He's been looking forward to snow for a week; he's made me check the weather online all week. Its been a daily routine for us to cehck the weather, and now that snow is here, Cam's NOT :(

Son number 1 is in NJ he has 8 inches and is expecting another 18.
I am glad he gets to stay home and just chill out as he puts it doing homework, paying bills, working on the computer.
I wish I was able to fax him some cookies fresh and warm from the oven.

I'm further ahead on this than most of you(not you, Ellie!)-we've had snow falling since yesterday evening and we're definitely over a foot. We (Coop & I) were out earlier, cleared the driveway, the walks, the deck, the cars..right now we couldn't prove it if we had to. The snow is falling so fast they can't even keep up with the snow tallies on TV. Pinot is reacting to it by covering up her face, curling up and sleeping. They're calling it "the Winter Wallop", "historical" and "massive".

As I posted on another thread, we were supposed to be having a party today; that's been postponed and we'll trek across the common drive to our neighbors for some wine instead! The party is tomorrow for the Ravens game; which is another ever-changing thing due to the storm. First, the game went from 1pm to 4:15pm. Then, word came the Bears didn't make it out of Chicago last night (why on earth did they wait until last night??), so the game may be postponed further till tomorrow evening at 8pm. So, we'll see what happens there...

I'll keep you posted on the storm!:D

Sparks19, which state are you in? I just love those pics of Hannah! She looks adorable in her pink snow suit! And those end shots, with that cold nose, Oh my, how sweet! The pups are having a great time too, from the looks of it!

I did all my errands yesterday. If figured, last weekend before Christmas, AND a huge storm, traffic will be crazy today.

I was right! Why was I out in it? BECAUSE I FORGOT TO BUY THE GAS FOR THE SNOW THROWER!

Got that, got the thing started, so now I am relaxed again. We are in the "blizzard" watch, with 14 to 20 inches predicted. WOO HOO!

Pinot - I just watched a update and the heaviest stuff is south of us... YOU. LOL We are already at about 3/4's of what they said we would get and its just now getting going. Can't wait to see what it looks like out there tomorrow.

And WOOT for it being light and fluffy.

I quit listening!!! I'll get the total when all is said and done. Right now it's snowing harder than it has since it started. My poor car is semi-buried.....:( Still no plows in sight. They can't even keep the main roads clear at this point, and I'm in no-man's land. Maybe I'll make it out by Wednesday if I'm lucky. :p

It FINALLY just started here! I'm so excited, lol! I just hope it snows like heck and then we have off or a delay on Monday. I'm horrible, aren't I?? We teachers are worse than the kids when it comes to delays and off when it snows. AND... it's only supposed to snow on the weekdays, not the weekends! I was hoping it wouldn't start at all until tomorrow, but noooooo... it had to all start today. Oh well.. it's snow, it's supposed to be a lot, so thta makes me a happy girl!

BTW.. my biscotti baking is going well. I'm done with the hazelnut cinnamon biscotti and am on to the chocolate hazelnut biscotti. I'm just waiting for Dave to get back with more parchment paper for me. I totally ran out and had just a tiny piece of it left, so that's all I have for one pan. I need more before I put my other pan in. Hope he didn't get into an accident, he's been gone for a while. :(

I'm so jealous of you guys!

I have a love-hate relationship of snow. I hate it, but I love having it.

Right now we have MAYBE 1 inch, if you look really hard. It's snowing right now, but I don't *think* we're supposed to get very much.

I'm in Richmond, VA and we have had about a foot. As I love looking at the snow, I hate it keeping me cooped up in the house. I left earlier for about an hour. I dug what I could from around my car, and then 2 neighbors gave me a quick push and off I went. I had to work until 8 last night, and although work is really close to my house, I managed to slide into the curb pretty hard last night and I didn't have my seat belt on ( I know, no lectures please :)) and I hit my head on the top of my car. Went to sleep w/ a headache but have been fine today...I still have alot of Christmas shopping to do, too!!

My son is in Midlothian, and drove down from Frederick, Maryland last evening - after picking up his oldest son at Hood. He said it took him about 3 hours to get from Fredericksburg to home - normally a one hour jaunt.

The snow started here in Trenton before dawn and hasn't stopped all day!!! Our local weather reports have been saying we could get 15" to 25" before it stops tomorrow morning. Earlier this afternoon I did get outside to walk around in it and it was so beautiful!!!!!! I love winter and the more snow, the better.

There's an old farmer's legend that says the date of the first trackable snowfall is how many times it will snow during the winter. The one year I kept track, it was right on accurate!!:D!!!

Hey snow, keep on coming!

I hope not! I like snow too, but don't know that I want to see 18 more storms this season.

Right now we have about 18"-20" and it's still snowing. Unfortunately, of the 3 cars in the driveway, one of them might be able to get out with a little bit of work. However, the other 2 have snow drifted around them to the tune of around 3', and blocking them in. The motorcycle and lawn tractor are snug and dry in the garage! Of course, still no plows down the road, since they can't even keep the main roads cleared with all the drifting. Glad we keep a well stocked pantry and freezer. At least we won't go hungry! :)

We have 15 inches so far

Just an update from a little south of you...it's still going, but nowhere near as strong. I have no idea the total, but we have so far exceeded twenty inches I can't even imagine by how much. We plowed off about 9-12 inches earlier in the day and at least a foot has fallen since. This is unbelievable. I'll see if I can post pictures tomorrow.

I must say, I'm a bit disappointed in this storm. They were calling for 18", we might have 6" right now. At least I got to finish some Christmas projects since I was off from work today :D

I do have to admit the driving was awful when I left work. It was also quite funny to drive through separate sections and know which town/city/borough was responsible for plowing. One street would be clean, and the next would be scary.

Count yourself lucky. We only ended up with 1 - 1 1/2 inches:rolleyes:

I'm sorry, but after having seen the great blizzard of '78:D with snow drifted to the roof of my house, and having to shovel snow into the bathtub to get out the sliding glass door; none of these 'blizzards' I've seen since look like much to me.

I've also noticed the more they hype it up, and the more people swamp the stores for supplies, the less snow we end up with.

pomtzu
12-20-2009, 10:21 AM
Now to dig out!!! :(

We ended up with about 20" - give or take a couple. It's beautiful - looked awesome last night with the outside blue Christmas lights on the house shining on it. The pups hate it since they are too little to be able to walk around in it, so my son had to shovel a potty area for them. A plow finally made it down our road, but he was struggling, and it's going to take a lot more passes to make it somewhat drivable. Oops!!! - there is now a plow stuck in front of the house!! I wonder how long before a car ends up in the ditch in front of the house. Happens all the time - people driving too fast or when they shouldn't be at all.

Schools already announced last night that they will be closed Monday. My son and grandson are trying to get at least one of the vehicles to where it could get out in case it would be needed in an emergency. The other 2 aren't going anywhere for a while. I'm just staying put anyway until it's safer to venture out.

Here's a few pics I took this a.m.

Oh yeah - we had it bad that year too - one like that I hope to never see again.

Had the same problem - snow drifted to within an inch of the top of the sliding glass door - had to exit from the front and tunnel to the back of the house to dig the snow from the deck to get the glass door open. National Guard out checking on people because no one could get out. After 4 days I was finally able to get out to go to work. Roads were plowed open - one lane only - and piled so high on either side of the road that it was like driving thru a snow tunnel! If you met a car coming in the opposite direction, one of you had to back up till you could find an area wide enough for both to get by. Now that was a snow storm to remember!!!

We are dug out. It took three hours this morning with a heavy duty snowthrower and shoveling, but we're cleared. I would estimate we were on the high end of the snow total, 24-28 inches. Our road has not been touched, but people are able to navigate it, and the sun is shining brightly to help things. It really is beautiful.

We were lucky here on the eastern shore of MD; only got about an inch or two at the most! That is quite enough for me after living through record snowfalls in Baltimore for 30 years! We lived in a rowhouse up there and when there was a lot of snow, there wasn't any place to put it once you started shoveling. Our front yard was stacked high with snow, taller than I am.

No one had garages, so we all parked on the street. Getting our cars out was usually a neighborhood effort; the person at the end of the block would be dug out first, he would move his car and we'd move on to the next one. Trouble was, if you shoveled your car out and put the snow on the street, the plow would come through at night and push it right back where it came from.

It's pretty at first, then it becomes a nuisance. I like to look at it, but there I draw the line...........

You can have all the snow you want, I hate it for practical reasons. We got 6" but it looked more like a foot with the blizzard conditions. I hope I never see snow again altho I'm sure the East Coast will get plenty more. For the first snowfall tho it was pretty big. I should never have left good old San Diego

:) You've been here - Coop uses that beast of a snowthrower to plow our driveway, Dan's driveway, Glenn's driveway, Lucinda's driveway, the common driveway, and, as you said, after the plow comes through (which it did with 45 minutes to spare before our guests came) he goes back up to the top of the common drive to get rid of the wall created by the plowing. We have to use a big one! I get the shoveling - I might have to renegotiate that contract next time! ;)
