In a fit of insanity I decided to draw my dad a picture of his four favorite people (the Beatles) for a christmas present.

I don't think I've ever drawn people before (aside from one demented tayshaun prince a few years ago), so keep that in mind.

Anyways, if you could critique what I have that would be FANTASTIC.

George Harrison is the top left, John Lennon is on the right. Can you tell John's my favorite Beatle? I definitely knew his face better lol.

Here are the pictures I used:

On George, I see that the eyes need a lot of work (the pupil/iris part is too big, I believe) and the mouth doesn't seem right.

On John, I think that the mouth needs some fixing.

I am HORRIBLE with hair (human and equine), so I know it's bad right now. I dunno what I'm going to do about that yet.

Thanks!

What a great job. Can't wait to see my favorite Ringo. Your dad will treasure this gift always.

lol I'm putting him off for last. His face is so...unique? (you know what I'm talking about) that I don't want to do it until I've already had the practice of drawing the three other Beatles.

I'll be sure to post him when I do it, though!

Yes Ringo is unique that is why he was always my favorite. One of the greatest drumers of all times.

Like you, I never draw people. I find it so much harder. I think this is a great gift for your dad and I know he likes it. John Lennon is my favorite beatle and subject in this picture. I agree that George's iris look a little big, but other then that I really don't see anything not to like about this drawing! It's really good! Are you going to draw Paul and Ringo too?

Keep up the awesome work, I really like this. AND when you're all done please show us the finished product. :D

thanks, John is my favorite so far :)

yeah, all four are going in the picture. I'm probably drawing Paul next.

Don't worry, I'll be posting it after I draw Paul, after Ringo, and then when it's all finished.

I added a slightly demented Paul McCartney to the mix...took about 45 minutes, and there is a LOT to be fixed, but...

Critique if you'd like!

I cannot find a good picture of Ringo Starr anywhere. GR.

On the right side of John Lennon's face, you need to bring the jaw line up a bit and narrow the face - see how that side of his face looks much wider? It's the jaw line that does that, it needs to be at more of an angle, like it is on the other side, and that will help a lot. And it's hard to tell from the angle the picture is taken at, but I think more hair - go further up on Paul.

One good thing to remember drawing people is that, when the oval of the face is drawn, the eyes - the middle of the eyes - go on a line drawn in the MIDDLE of the oval. That's not exactly true for every face, but it works for almost everyone. So measure it out that way, and add more hair on the top for Paul to make the proportions better. There are other guidelines - like the pupils of the eyes generally align to the corners of the mouth, etc., I could bore you for hours, but they are helpful basics.

Have you tried Google's Image Search for good Ringo Starr pictures? It's usually good for that!

Thank you so much! Haha, don't worry about boring me, I love getting critiques like this (:

I searched google images for a good 30 minutes. They're all either blurry, awkward, or he's too old (i'm doing mid-60's Beatles). GR. Poor Ringo, no one took pictures of him I guess

Since you're a Beatle fan I wanted to post a pic of the Paul doll that I bought way back in the 60's. I wanted the John doll since he has always been my fav but they were sold out so I bought this one. Thought you might like to see it:

I think I found my picture, it's on page four. Kinda small though, I'll have to get creative.
