Did he try blowing all the dust out before he did that? I think that can cause overheating problems.

Trust me dust isn't the main issue (it gets cleaned regularly due to the lovely assortment of cat hair we have here :D)

The issue is just a matter of airflow, none of the cases we have allow for proper ventilation of that particular motherboard. Getting the PSU and the hard drive out of the boards way turned out to be more helpful than I thought it would be.

Maybe find an old ammo can to use as a case, with a bunch of fans.

We actually tossed that idea around. The local recycling center sometimes gets the old cans...I would love to base a PC in one.

John (hubby) has newegg on speed dial. :D In fact I can thank them for my very nice graphics card in my gaming box. Newegg is about the best online retailer as far as price goes on most things...however returns are kind of a pain in the rear...

When its time to build a media PC Im getting a mini itx MB and putting it in a 7.62x39 ammo can.

My son goes all out when building computers. In the year, since he arrived here, he has built at least 5 different computers. He is constantly buying new parts. from Newegg, and selling his old parts on Ebay. His latest has a CPU and video card generatimg so my heat it require 14 separate fans to cool everything. He is overclocking on top of that so more heat to get rid of. I have heard of gamblers anonymous, do the have a computer builders anonymous?:D

Yes, it is a sickness... I would be the poster child for Computer Builders Anonymous...which is more about researching, building and benchmarking, than about actually using it.

The excitement of pressing that start button after building a new one from scratch is beyond description.....it is like a high or even sex...well, maybe not as fun as that...but very close :)
