Im not sure whether you'll have to dial 011 203.... or rather 011 44 203...
The 44 is the UK pre-fix, and the 011 is what you have to dial from the US or Canada to get an international line.

Not sure from Canada. However, the phone books from your area should have a section with info on international dialing.

An overseas call should be the same from every country (except from the origin of the recipient location) as far a I know!

So you need the country code which is +44 or 0044. Then the 020 seem to be the area code which normally you just ommit the first 0. So far:

0044 20 and the rest 6 digit number.

Hope it is of any help!

Welcome! I never realized there were so many #'s involved in making a call to the UK!

So it'd actually be 011 44 203 027 0979. leave out that first zero if you're having problems, that's what I was doing wrong the first few times I tried to call the UK.

Could you kindly answer my curiosity please?

Why the 011? What does it stands for? Is it a prefix to get cheeaper rates when calling overseas? Or, what?

Why the 011? What does it stands for?

Here in Europe we have to dial 00 (as in 0049 for Germany or 0044 for UK) to get an international line instead of a purely national one. In the US and in Canada it is 011 instead.
So to call a normal London number which would start with 0207...in UK you would have to dial 011 44 207...

Thanks Barbara!

Learned something new today! Though I cannot remember of doing an 011 to dial home before the 00356 which is the country code for Malta, when I visited the US and Canada!

I must have forgot then!
