How cool! :) A few months ago I heard one and couldn't believe my ears. I went to my bedroom window and it was maybe six feet away. I didn't want to run to get my camera and startle it but it was the coolest thing ever!

He's pecking away at the wood as there are insects inside. He'll likely be back. If you want to keep seeing him this winter, you can try putting out some suet.

Funny story about a Woodpecker. Back in the early 70's when the Exorcist first hit the movies a neighbor came knocking on my door, pale as a ghost, wanting me to come to her hose because weird things were going on and she was afraid to go back home. She said there was a weird noise all through her house. I went next door and went in to investigate and sure enough there was a noise that resonated throughout her house. i looked in every room and couldn't find anything. Finally I went out side to investigate. Up on her roof was a huge Red headed Woodpecker pecking on the metal furnace vent pipe. The noise in the house was 10 times louder than what we heard outside. She said she had just seen the Exorcist the night before and she hadn't gotten over it yet. :D

That's cool, Barry! We have alot of them here. We have the small ones and those giant ones. The first time I ever saw one of those I was in shock. They're gigantic. :)

We have woodpeckers around here. They're kinda rare to see tho they don't come around people much, but when I hear one they're easy to spot lol...
