"Environment specified is invalid"

Short version - I have fought with this problem for several days. Spooler is all better, .dll put back in....

Now I go to install the printer - the computer DOES recognize it - and then I get the message above.

I have Googled and tried what is suggested. A printer repair guy I know said driver for this printer is hosted...uninstall, reinstall from HP site, NOT CDROM, and THEN plug printer in when told to.

Will also borrow laptop (waiting for the AC Adapter for mine to be returned) and make sure it is NOT the printer itself).

Just checking here to see if anyone has any other ideas?

Thanks.

NB - this printer installed perfectly on my own home computer. ANY ideas???? Wipe and reload??

I copied the i386 into the proper folder on the client's computer, and confirmed it in regedit.

ANY ideas?

This quote is from a techie solution board...and no replies are there.

Basically when I run the install file I get to the screen which reads “New printer detected. Please wait...” However it seems to 'freeze' on this page for 10 / 15 mins and then eventually changes to "Installation failed."

I've tried it 6 or 7 times but with no success. My cable is fine. Please help!

I have a [HP Compaq] desktop, Windows XP [Pro] and server pack 3.

Looks like a wipe and reload at the very least...

Will try Recovery install...
