Apologies if this has already been addressed, but I'm pretty sure cats behave differently around us than they do when out of our sight. So...

My cat, Leela, has demonstrated to me that she does NOT like other cats. She hisses and growls at them, and they stop their approaches with the typical flexing tail behavior.

However, I've been told that she will sometimes play with these other cats when I'm not around. She will also (I'm told) allow other humans to pet her and so forth!

So, is her hating just for my benefit (since I'm the primary feeder)?

I'm just curious about your own observations about cat behavior, what your know about them both in your presence and (when they think) they are not being observed. I'm already Leela's slave so I doubt there's hope for me...

Jealosy can be a big part of it. With our CREW, if they can see us they know we can see them. Lenny likes to chase Boots, Bailey hates Chessie and visversa, Mits hates have anyone else aroound me, but will let Penny have 5-10 minuets before going into his sleep position cuddled in my arm pit. He has held that spot for almost 8 years now.
