I watched the news today about the 747 that was circling around NYC yesterday. The FCC knew about it and said that they informed everyone that needed informing. I was appalled at the insensitivity and think someone should be held accountable. MANY of the NYers said they feared it was a repeat of 911.

Anyone care to comment?

I saw the photo in the news and it brought back all those memories of 9/11.
Did they explain why they had to go on a low-level-flight over NYC?

I heard that Pres Obama called a meeting with those responsible, and some heads rolled. He supposedly knew nothing about it either. I wonder what would have happened if someone in the NY area that witnessed it, had a heart attack out of fear of a repeat of 9/11????? The whole thing wasn't very well thought out beforehand - obviously!!!!

I think it scared many people, those who witnessed it must have thought it's happening again... :(

That's probably a good idea.

I heard on the radio this morning that they were updating pictures of Air Force One. Is that not true? Regardless, that's a dumb reason. Like the lady on the radio said - use Photoshop!!! And why do they need an updated picture, has it really changed?
Maybe their info was not accurate. But regardless it was a dumb thing to do!!

Home Land Security wanted a photo op of Air Force One and a fighter escort over Manhattan. I find it hard to believe that HLS could do this without the POTUS knowledge.

Very stoopid and insensitive move on someone's part.
Just goes to show how out of touch some people are.

I read that The President is furious. Rightly so. "Somebody" needs some sensitivity training.

Actually, I think it is just an example of another inexperienced person making decisions in our government.

I hope heads DO roll. And to not inform the President was insane. All for some photo-op pictures of Air Force One near some monumental places. That's just plane stupid, irresponsible and insensitive, especially for the residents of NYC who had to go through 911. I only hope that no one was hurt (health-wise) at such a stupid move on the Pentagon's part.

Here I am a thousand (?) miles away, the TV was on but I had the sound on mute when I looked up and saw that on TV with the Stature of Liberty.. I can NOT tell you how my heart sank! I went into panic mode and grabbed the remote to get the sound... then heard it was a photo shoot for that updated picture and I screamed at the TV "IDOITS! WHY NOT FOREWARN THE PUBLIC AT LEAST FOR A WEEK BEFORE YOU DID THAT!!!!!!". A little TV and radio press on that would have went a long way...

THIS is the kind of people running our country?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this plan was approved by Louis Caldera. He's not with the Pentagon. He was appointed by the President as Director of the White House Military Office. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Caldera

nobody recognized it as Air Force One? It kinda stands out among 747's doesn't it? In any case they shoulda announced it because it would be noticed by people.

It was a stupid thing to fly Air Force One in this manner. When they could have just used Photoshop to put it in a picture with the Statue of Liberty (which of course would send all the conspiracy nuts off on a different rant...) It was dumb and a big waste of money.

HOWEVER, don't you think it would be even dumber to announce where Air Force One is flying????

I mean, there are some people who might think shooting down Air Force One a good thing to do?

ES,

You do have a good point. But really, photoshop would've been a much better, safer option, in my opinion.

I may be mistaken (it wouldn't be the first time), but to the best of my knowledge, it's not Air Force One unless the President is on board.

Yes, I forget the term that was used but it was "another" AF1. As blue said, though, they were told NOT to inform the public.

Totally tone deaf on this one. You just don't DO that...have low flying 747s around lower Manhattan.
