We had an f3 level tornado rip through the southern part of Indianapolis last week.....saw this picture in the Indy star...and the article. Amazingly no deaths, and only minor injuries - this storm stayed on the ground for over 100 miles. Scary stuff.

There was also a story about a woman who was in her van with her child - she got her son on the floor of the back seat and got on top of him - the van was picked up and put down 3 blocks away! No one hurt.....there were witnesses who saw the van "flying overhead"...unreal

First of all, I'm glad you are all safe. Tornados are very scary.

What a heartwarming story about Michelle being reunited with her Sugar. Sugar looks pretty wide eyed in that picture!! :)

An apartment complex

A Galyan's Sporting Goods store...or what's left of ithttp://www.indystar.com/users/multimedia/galleries/2002/09/storms1/photo10.jpg a large utility truck overturned (that had to be some wind!)http://www.indystar.com/users/multimedia/galleries/2002/09/storms1/photo09.jpg

again, thank God no one was seriously injured...the warning systems worked well, AND people actually paid attention to them. There was a middle school hit, but thanks to fast thinking they were all in a safe place even though a good part of the school was completely destroyed.

Glad you yall are ok. We are having hurricanes down here like crazy...Luckly though we are a bit inland so all we get is rain from them. We are going to brave the beach this weekend so pray for us that all goes well and we just get the rain from it. :)

Yes, I've been watching the progress of the hurricane - hope all goes well! I've been close to a hurricane - nothing to mess with, take cover and do whatever you must to stay safe!

that reminds me of conversations w/my dad.....we'd watch TLC/DISC channel weather programs and i'd ask him tornado or earthquake?

he'd say earthquake...your stuff is in a neat pile that didn't go everywhich way...both are pretty traumatic but there was a bit of truth in his statement.

here in so california any sign of animals acting strange is a kind
of warning about earthquakes. My cat has been acting strange lately and thank god nothing has happened yet........it freaks me out when i see him staring up at the ceiling......dogs bark and cats hide right before earthquakes.........i wonder what tips them off?

Ahem, okay, we've only had small ones in the couple of years I've lived with my cats, but so far they sleep through them. ;) So much for my plans for a 'furry warning system'.

lol...aCTUALLY this got me thinking. Ritz hides under a chair in the living room during bad thunderstorms....but when we had a little earthquake recently (yep, we have them in the midwest occasionally too)she was glued to my spouse's side and jumped into his lap, giving him this "wazzup" look. She is not a lap cat, so he knew something was bugging her.

right before the northridge quake my g friends two cats
would not come out of hiding about 24 hours before the BIG one.
they did the 'belly crawl' to check out the scene but would not leave the closet....

as for the dogs, my brother's dogs howled in the hours preceding the quake. the also gave him a early warning on the two friday aftershocks later that week. not an exact science but pretty compelling.
