Hi everyone..

i don't know much about kitties and I'm usually on the Dog Side of PT, but I have a question..

I was at a friend's house today and was met by the most gorgeous long haired Coon cat (is that right?). She was more like a dog than a cat. She LOVED being touched and kissed and petted, and slapped me on the hand for more!!!!! She had the most lovely long coat.

Is that the personality of the breed??? Does anyone have one? I'm totally in love!

Isn't Richard's Edward D. Katz a Maine Coon?

Maine Coon cats are big, fluffy and loveable.
They can be described as very dog like in their behavior.
I have a handsome one who lives next door to me, he comes over to visit a lot.
Here is a link to a thread I posted of him with lots of photos.:)

My grandmom found a Maine Coon underneath a car and took him home. That night he would sit in our laps and love all the attention. If someone didn't know when we got him, they probably would of thought he was her cat for years!

Maine Coons love attention and they are very loveable.

Maine Coons are notorious for their sociable, friendly nature. They skipped the whole "aloof" thing in cat school!

The Maine Coons I have met were super friendly and loving. Makes you want one, don't it?

My Specs is a Maine Coon and he's a little afraid of everyone but once he warms up to you, he wants a lot of attention. He hops up on the sofa next to me and puts his paw on my hand and sometimes will sit on his haunches and put his "arm" around me. He usually comes when called, too, so that's rather like dog behavior, I guess. :)

Have you read the description of the COTD today? Shadey is part Maine Coon.

Both of our, Chessie (mix) and Bart (full blooded), Main coons love attention. Yes you will get slapped or yelled at if you stop. Chessie is a momma's boy and follows her all over the house. Bart is mine and follows me, if I sit he has too sit next too me. He also has too meet me at the door when I come home from work. Et our rainbow girl was momma's and very, very vocal when no one gave her the attention that she wanted.
These guy's are known as gentel giants. By the way Chessie is 17 lb and Bart is 26.

Very common for the breed. Sounds like you've been bitten by the bug! When can I bring down one for you to adopt? When I come to help redecorate your house.... it'll be a little more difficult to decorate around whatever hair color this kitty will have but I could make it work ;)

I had the pleasure of having Ragnar Gustafson as a Found Cat for 6 months.
He lived up the street and was neglected as his friend had moved out.
She snuck Ragnar over until she and her husband had a lace of thier own.
Raganar Guftason was such a Handsome Gentle Giant, and he loved everyone and they loved him. I know Scrappy 2 look for her Big Friend fuurrrrever as he kept her warm, along with Scratchy when she was a Stray.
You cant go wrong with a Maine Coon.

I think the breed is very affable. However, I must put in a plug for cats in general...I think they get a less than deserved bad rap. I have 3 cats that cannot get enough of people...walking all over them, snuggling, etc. They aren't maine coons...but, are certainly WAY into people, a lot like dogs. In fact, one of them is very dog like with food...he will come out from anywhere, especially if we are sitting at the table, and beg. :)

Dog Like?

:D

Yes, the Edster is an MC.

Really smart and should have taught him more dog tricks.

I have amazed people by telling Ed "Come on, let's go home!" He gets up, walks over to the door, waits and I can walk him out and over between houses.

Sometimes he may spy the hidden kitteh and take chase, but mostly he is a good listener, a great talker, a snorer, a ton on a full bladder and a very good, smart and goofy cat!

I have a kitty dog but he's part Norwegian Forest Cat and Siamese. This is Sky and when I take him to the vets he wants to come out of his carrier so he can meet everyone. He'll purr and give headbutts. The vet techs are amazed by this.:)

Storm may have some Maine Coon in him as well and he's also a very social cat. Ziggy Stardust looks like she has Maine Coon in her but she's a very shy cat and will usually hide when any one comes over.

I'm going to a cat show tomorrow so I'm sure I'll some of these gentle giants.:)
