My friends bought me a very early birthday present about 4 weeks ago. They got me two Fantail Goldfish with a 5 gallon tank.(If I would have gotten the tank myself, it would have been at least a 10 or 15 gallon but this one is good for now) I have never had Goldfish before, so I was wondering if anyone can give me some general care advice.
How long does it take for the cloudiness to go away? It's been cloudy for almost a week now but I've read not to change the water because it will make it worse?
I've also read that gravel isn't a good choice for goldfish because they have so much waste it just gets stuck in the gravel. I'm not sure whether or not to leave the gravel in?
One of the goldfish Ed has white growths on his tail and on his head. I got Melafix as that is what the pet store recommended. It's almost completely gone on his head but his tail rot/fungus will not go away. I did the treatment for a week then I realized I forgot to take out the carbon so I did on Sunday but it seems like it hasn't gotten any better.
One more thing :o...How often should I change the water and how much? 25%, 50%? How often should I change the filtration stuff?
Sorry for all the questions! I'm new to fish (other then Betta's) and I want to make sure they are healthy as possible. :)
They seem to be very happy and they are very active swimmers!
